Our NSW Water Business Group is on the lookout for an Associate/Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our Sydney team — placing you at the forefront of Australia’s most transformative water infrastructure programs. From major projects with Sydney Water and Hunter Water to nationally significant projects, you’ll be part of a tight-knit, collaborative team solving complex water and wastewater design challenges that truly impact communities, the environment, and the future.
What You’ll Do
We recognize that everyone has unique strengths, and while we value the right experience, we welcome applications from candidates with proven experience in the water, mining, or industrial sectors at a Professional to Principal level. Depending on your experience, you will ideally:
- Drive the technical quality of water and wastewater infrastructure design projects.
- Drive mechanical and hydraulic design across the full project lifecycle, ensuring high technical standards.
- Produce and review concise, high-quality technical documentation and support proposals and pursuits.
- Understand and manage the design on a range of projects or program work packages.
- Manage design packages across a range of projects and programs.
- Exceed client expectations by contributing to a collaborative, responsive design team.
- Assist in project management and design management of a range of projects.
- Mentor emerging talent and collaborate across local and national teams.
About You
You’re a qualified and experienced mechanical engineer who brings a passion for water infrastructure and a collaborative mindset. Ideally, you’ll have:
- A bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent tertiary qualifications.
- Chartered status with Engineers Australia, or you’re actively working toward CPEng.
- Solid experience in an engineering consultancy, or in a design role with a contractor or asset owner — with water industry experience being essential.
- Strong technical capabilities across water infrastructure and treatment systems.
- Hands-on experience in hydraulic design for water utilities and pump stations; familiarity with CFD and pipe stress analysis is a plus.
- Confidence in selecting and specifying equipment for complex systems.
- Proficiency in stress analysis using software tools or analytical techniques.
- Exposure to Plant 3D or Inventor is advantageous.
- Knowledge of CHAIR, HAZOP, and safety-in-design practices.
- The ability to prepare and review technical reports for medium to large projects, consult effectively with clients, and communicate clearly with internal teams and stakeholders.
