We are currently seeking a Camps Superintendent to join our team on a Fixed-Term (One-Year) position at our Simberi Operations. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Buka, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Manager Commercial, the Camps Superintendent manages all camp services; accommodation, catering, laundry, maintenance, logistics and staff, ensuring safety, quality, and cost-efficiency in a remote setting. Key duties involve budgeting, procurement, staff supervision, maintenance oversight, and meeting service level agreements (SLAs) for a productive mining workforce.
The opportunity
Technical accountabilities
- Operations Management: Oversee daily camp operations (accommodation, catering, laundry, water/power), coordinate logistics (transport, arrivals/departures), and manage maintenance/upgrades.
- Staff Management: Supervise camp staff, schedule shifts, manage performance, and provide training/mentoring.
- Finance & Procurement: Manage camp budgets, control costs, oversee catering contracts, and handle procurement for supplies.
- Health, Safety & Environment (HSE): Implement safety protocols, conduct audits, ensure compliance with standards, and report hazards.
- Stakeholder Liaison: Coordinate with mining operations, contractors, and vendors; maintain good relationships.
- Reporting: Track KPIs, analyse data, and provide reports to management.
- Inspection and Oversight: Do daily oversight and weekly inspections Staff.
- Planning and decision making based on a 3–12-month time horizon.
- Ensure menus conform to a monthly cycle and are revised regularly.

- Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Camp team.
People accountabilities
- Contributing to building and developing an effective team.
- Ensuring own work performance meets all role requirements; and taking appropriate professional development actions.

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a similar role in a remote mining or oil & gas sector with progressive leadership roles
- Possess HACCP qualifications and skills, preferably at the intermediate level
- Possess FSMS ISO 22000: 2018 certificate (food safety management system)
- Bachelor’s degree in hospitality or related field
- Current PNG Driver’s Licence
- Proficiency in MS Office programmes and working knowledge of the Pronto software
- Strong leadership, communication, problem-solving, critical thinking, accountability, and teamwork skills
