Use your specialist trade mark knowledge to help protect our clients’ brands and deliver commercially minded, strategic IP advice.

If you’re ready to get involved in all aspects of trade mark law and want to be part of a team that works closely with clients to protect and grow their brands, this could be your next step.

At Source IP, we're not a law firm. We sit shoulder-to-shoulder with our clients, helping them navigate the commercial landscape of their IP, focused on trade mark strategy - not just tick boxes.

Your opportunity

We’re on the lookout for a Trade Mark Attorney or Trade Mark Solicitor with 2–4 years’ post-registration or post-admission experience to join our IP team. You’ll be Melbourne-based, and while this is a full-time role, we’d also consider part-time for the right candidate.

Whether it’s advising on brand strategy, undertaking trade mark prosecution work, conducting contentious matters, or navigating international registrations – you’ll be right there in the thick of it.

Who are we?

Source IP is part of HPX Group, where we’re creating a new kind of professional services business – one that puts people first and works differently.

We don’t sit on the sidelines – we partner with our clients in the thick of it. Our IP team works across a wide range of industries, helping clients protect their most valuable assets.

We’re proud to be part of a group that’s committed to doing great work, growing great people, and challenging the status quo.

What You’ll Be Doing

You'll work within our specialist IP team, under the guidance of our IP directors and closely with clients to assist in all aspects of their brand protection, including:

  • Advise on trade mark availability, conducting searches and creating protection strategies.
  • Prepare specifications and manage the prosecution of trade mark applications, primarily in Australia and New Zealand, with some exposure to international work. With a focus on examination report review, advice and conducting work to achieve acceptance, including preparing responses to IP Australia, IPONZ and letters of consent.
  • As part of a team, handling opposition, non-use and other proceedings before IP Australia and IPONZ.
  • Managing watching services and providing advice on potential infringement of IP rights.
  • Conducting work on enforcement, including letters of demand and assisting in negotiating resolutions to potential disputes.
  • Experience in domain name disputes would be advantageous.
  • Collaborate as needed with external stake holders and international associates.
  • Support broader commercial and IP advisory matters across the team.

What We’re Looking For

We’re after someone who’s passionate about IP and helping businesses protect what makes them unique.

You might have started your career in a traditional IP firm or law firm, but you're looking for something different, more client-focused, and more human, where people are put first.

You’ll bring:

  • 2–4 years’ (PQE) experience as a Trade Mark Attorney or Trade Mark Solicitor
  • A solid understanding of Australian and New Zealand trade mark law. And ideally experience with the intricacies of international trade marks.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines across multiple matters
  • A commercial mindset and ability to connect legal advice to business impact
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A proactive, curious approach and collaborative attitude, with the ability to work autonomously (knowing you have plenty of support when needed)
  • An adaptive nature to new ways of working

What’s In It For You?

  • A chance to work with a diverse mix of exciting, growth-focused clients
  • Flexibility – we get that life happens outside of work
  • Genuine mentorship and development from senior IP leaders, at the forefront of their profession.
  • Competitive salary, plus access to Group equity
  • Work with a great team in a fun, collaborative and high performing team environment
  • Be at the forefront of developing new ways of providing legal services
  • No time recording
  • An extra week of leave for personal or professional development
  • Regular team events, socials, and PD days – we work hard, but we have fun doing it
  • Perkbox membership for discounts on everything from groceries to gym memberships
