Our client, a Canadian multinational energy transportation company with a focus on the transportation, distribution, and generation of energy, has an immediate need for a Senior Internal Communications Advisor to collaborate with business stakeholders and execution teams. This is a contract position for one (1) year located in Calgary, Alberta.

Description:

The Senior Internal Communications Advisor develops and implements strategic internal communications that engages and aligns enterprise employees with business, strategic priorities, values and culture.

 Accountabilities

  • Develop execute and maintain enterprise-wide strategic internal communications programs, key messaging, resources and channels for the client group that effectively communicate business priorities through the lens of its corporate narrative
  • Act as communications advisor to the client group executive team in the area of effective employee communications
  • Develop leadership communications, such as speeches, scripts and talking points, for the client group executive team
  • Collaborate with the Public Affairs, Communications and Sustainability (PACS) group to ensure communications alignment and consistency across stakeholder groups
  • Stay current on emerging trends and best practices to identify communication opportunities to help improve employee engagement
  • Provide guidance and education on the role and function of internal communications within the organization
  • Create content, including reports, presentations, key messages, updates and stories
  • Manage internal channels, including intranet, email, Yammer and digital signs
  • Partner with IT on using technology to maintain and improve internal communication effectiveness
  • Monitor and measure communications for effectiveness
  • As a member of the Business and Internal Communications (BIC) team, this role will contribute to overall enterprise communications strategy editorial planning and channel effectiveness and back up other BIC team members as needed
  • This role will also be a member of the crisis communications response team
  • Scope/Dimensions
  • This role operates autonomously but works with their manager to set and meet goals, manage complex strategies, execute flawlessly and measure and report the effectiveness of programs and initiatives
  • Work independently to develop and implement communications activities with very little management oversight
  • Collaborate with internal and/or external resources on a project-by-project basis
  • Day-to-day interaction with communications colleagues throughout the organization as well as interaction with other business units, departments and teams
  • Demonstrate flexibility to respond to quickly shifting priorities
  • Be willing to assist with development of communications to a variety of audiences as required.

 Required

  • Bachelors’ degree in communications, public relations, journalism or related field
  • Seven or more years of directly related experience
  • Experience in and understanding of a large, public company with operations in multiple regions
  • Experienced in and passionate about building employee engagement and organizational alignment through effective internal communications
  • Technical Skills
  • Solid understanding of internal communication best practices and connection to peers in other organizations to research and apply changes in evolving internal approaches and tactics
  • Strong communications skills and knowledge, and detailed understanding of communication theory and its application in the effective integration of corporate messages across a variety of media, for a variety of target audiences
  • Outstanding writing skills, with experience and comfort writing for internal audiences and support executive leaders to deliver internal messages
  • Project management skills including strategic planning, the ability to develop and manage workplans and budgets, coordinate with external suppliers to deliver on time and on budget
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment, with well-developed prioritization, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • A high degree of flexibility to adapt to multiple and competing priorities
  • Good judgment in determining relevant content for employees
  • Strong analytical skills to quickly analyze complex situations, determine key issues, messages and outcomes, and implement targeted programs
  • Proven experience writing and implementing communication plans
  • Excellent research skills in subject matter field
