Our client, one of the largest financial industry clients in Canada, has an immediate need for a Sr. Visual Product Designer in Toronto, ON (Temporary Remote).

What are the main responsibilities of the role?

The designer will be part of a 3-person squad (Interaction Designer, Visual Designer, Content Designer), led by a Design Lead, supported by a Design Researcher and working on a daily basis with a number of cross-functional partners: product managers, project managers, business analysts, developers and quality assurance teams.

A curious, strategic, and collaborative team member with an open mindset; a natural leader who ignites design conversation by inviting and responding to feedback; a self-starter with solid time management and presentation skills; a skilled product designer that lives and breathes mobile-first, comfortable working on multiple projects; An experienced Visual Designer with a natural feel for typography and design.

What does the future state of success look like for the new designer?

Has adapted relatively quickly to our ways of working (3 months), has extensive knowledge of the app’s design system and patterns, fully collaborates with the immediate team (squad) on a daily basis, is self-motivated, self-sufficient, understands well how to be successful in a larger team environment and with multiple cross-functional partners, can identify opportunities for improvement within the team and contributes enthusiastically.

What are the must have skills (4-5 max)?

  • Mobile Product design experience, in a Visual Designer role (Native Mobile App or responsive web)
  • Solid typography, visual hierarchy and concepting skills
  • Experience working with complex design systems
  • Lean UX and working with Agile dev teams
  • Usability research

What are the nice to have skills (3-4 max)?

  • Has worked with large design teams and multiple stakeholders (Product/Business/Technical partners)
  • Experience creating user journeys, wireframes, and information architecture
  • Figma experience


What skills would you like to build within your team?

Product strategy, Data analysis, Measurement frameworks and metrics

What program/technology/software knowledge is essential for this role? Describe in what capacity the selected candidate will be using it?

Figma will be used the majority of the time, we also use Mural, Confluence, Jira, PowerPoint, Keynote.

Soft Skills:

Strong communication and presentation skills, ability to collaborate with other designers and cross-functional team members, ability to manage stakeholders and build relationships. Experience in facilitating workshops is a nice to have.

Additional Information

  • Effective Nov 1st, 2021, all employees and non-employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (2 doses required). Client requires proof of Covid-19 vaccination to access job site. Providing proof of vaccination is a condition of employment with Ian Martin for this role
  • The resource can work from home to start but will be required to work onsite in Toronto at least 2 days per week once covid worksite restrictions lifted
