About Howmans Gap Alpine Discovery Camp

We're looking for an energetic and positive Assistant Manager - Camping to help lead one of Victoria's most exciting outdoor education and camping environments. This is more than an operations role. It's an opportunity to inspire teams, shape culture, create exceptional customer experiences, and help thousands of young people build confidence, connection and lifelong memories.
Working alongside the Camp Manager, you'll be a visible leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings people together, and ensures every aspect of camp operations runs smoothly, safely, and successfully.
What You'll Be Doing
- Leading and supporting teams across programs, catering, administration, maintenance, and housekeeping
- Creating a positive, inclusive, and high-performing team culture
- Building strong relationships with schools, community groups, and key stakeholders
- Overseeing camp operations, rostering, logistics, and service deliver
- Championing safety, risk management, and child safeguarding
- Coaching, mentoring, and developing staff to reach their full potential
- Driving continuous improvement, innovation, and operational excellence
- Stepping into the Acting Camp Manager role when required
Who We're Looking For
You're a people-first leader who loves developing teams, solving problems, and delivering outstanding experiences. You'll bring:
- Proven leadership experience in camping, outdoor recreation, hospitality, tourism, education, or community services
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- Experience managing teams, training staff, and leading day-to-day operations
- Sound judgement, initiative, and the ability to stay calm under pressure
- A passion for creating safe, engaging, and meaningful experiences for young people Experience with camp booking systems will be highly regarded.
Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Outdoor Recreation, Education, Business, Tourism or similar
- First Aid & CPR
