About the role: 

We’re seeking a new site-based Construction Manager who will be responsible for overseeing the safe and efficient delivery of high voltage substation projects, supplying Data Centres. This role manages all on-site construction and contractor activities. The Construction Manager upholds the integrity of operations by enforcing compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards across all works.

Key responsibilities include planning, leading and coordinating all site-based construction activities across civil, structural, and electrical scopes, including HV plant installation and associated infrastructure; managing and directing multiple field teams, subcontractors, and supervisors to ensure efficient execution of works; and ensuring effective sequencing and coordination of activities to meet programme milestones and construction objectives.

This role acts as the primary on-site point of contact for all construction-related matters; working with closely with the project management team to enable successful delivery.

 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Leading, mentoring, and developing team members while fostering engagement and alignment with organisational values
  • Coordinating delivery of construction works to achieve cost, time, quality, and safety targets
  • Overseeing project and contract delivery, ensuring compliance with specifications, plans, and performance targets
  • Monitoring and managing contractor performance, ensuring obligations are met and corrective actions are being implemented
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing commercial, operational, and project risks, including HSE compliance
  • Optimising resource utilisation, team capability, and work practices to improve service delivery outcomes
  • Supporting the project manager to maintain programme budgets, forecasts, and financial performance, ensuring accurate reporting and cost control
  •  
  • Engaging, collaborating, and influencing internal and external stakeholders to align on project objectives
  • Promoting and leading a strong health, safety, and environmental culture, ensuring risks are being actively managed and mitigated


About you: 

The ideal candidate is an experienced construction professional with a strong background in delivering complex infrastructure projects, preferably within High Voltage Substation environments. They demonstrate sound judgement, and the ability to manage risk, schedule, field teams, and stakeholders effectively. With a strong focus on health, safety and environmental performance, they consistently promote safe work practices and compliance. They are an effective communicator, capable of influencing and engaging diverse teams; while articulating issues clearly to the project management team. A natural leader, they mentor others, drive accountability, and support continuous improvement of site-based activity.

Tangible Experience

  • Extensive experience in construction or engineering project delivery
  • Managing contractors, consultants, and supplier performance across complex projects
  • Delivering projects within budget, schedule, and quality targets
  • Implementing HSE systems and driving strong safety outcomes on site
  • Identifying, assessing, and managing project and commercial risks
  • Using Microsoft Office, (and preferably SAP) to support project and financial management
