About the role: 

The Overhead Line Design Surveyor is responsible for conducting detailed site surveys and assessments to support the design and construction of overhead power line infrastructure. This role ensures accurate data collection, analysis, and interpretation to inform engineering designs using Survey gear and total station that comply with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards.  

The surveyor collaborates closely with design engineers, project managers, and the field teams to deliver reliable and cost-effective survey & design solutions for new installations, upgrades, and maintenance of overhead line systems. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Design Team support: 

The role will add support to and help improve service delivery, and will involve relationships with design engineers, project managers and administrative staff. Assist with various design support tasks, including AutoCAD drafting support, technical advice, and cable derating assessments. The candidate will have a strong focus on overhead line design and technical standards. 

  • Project Coordination & Scheduling: 

Support the design & survey team with project scheduling, managing new survey requests, and maintaining up-to-date design, survey mailbox and team’s survey trackers. 

  • Timely Project Delivery: 

Help manage the Survey works program by ensuring regular updating of the tracker and keeping an eye out on the target dates.  

  • Stakeholder Communication: 

Assist in evaluating and communicating with project managers, maintenance planners, and other stakeholders including clients on behalf of the group regarding any project impacts. 

  • Customer Service: 

Deliver a high standard of customer service in all interactions. 

About you:

To be successful in this role you will bring several years of experience in a similar role, along with; 

  • Min. of certificate III in power systems, surveying or other relevant qualification.  
  • Previous power industry work experience. 
  • Previous experience in line survey design, CAD drafting, nPoles, Preparation of detailed design on substations, and overhead designs up to 66KV will be highly regarded.   
  • Lidar Skills and Neara design software working knowledge will be highly regarded. 
  • Practical experience in customer service delivery and effective client interactions. 
  • Experience in survey projects demonstrating planning, time management, communication, reporting and financial control. 
  • Victorian drivers licence. 
  • Working knowledge of Street lighting, underground & other design components will be regarded.
