About the role: 

We are seeking a Project Engineer to join our Canberra‑based team, supporting Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) and project development activities for our major client, Evoenergy. This role plays a key part in the development, coordination and governance of engineering and design activities during early project phases, including design development, investigations, approvals inputs, risk management and Target Outturn Cost (TOC) preparation. The position supports the delivery of portions of complex projects and smaller low‑risk projects, working closely with the Design Manager, project teams and specialist consultants. This is an ideal opportunity for an engineer who enjoys design‑led project development, multidisciplinary coordination and shaping projects before construction begins. 

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Ensuring adherence to site safety and environmental plans and implementing Zinfra’s safety culture across all activities.
  • Collating data for Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) reporting and participating in risk workshops to identify and mitigate hazards.
  • Managing portions of large projects or entire small, low-risk projects while supporting scope development and resolving discrepancies.
  • Reviewing design drawings and specifications to define scope and providing technical support in areas of expertise.
  • Compiling subcontract packages, managing subcontractor activities, and contributing to procurement strategies and vendor negotiations.
  • Monitoring progress against the baseline schedule, supporting recovery planning, and maintaining accurate project records.
  • Implementing risk control measures, identifying opportunities, and escalating realised risks to management.
  • Preparing estimates to complete activities, contributing to cost tracking, and developing progress reports for stakeholders.
  • Engaging with stakeholders, maintaining positive relationships, and contributing to communication plans and project integration processes.
  • Assist with preparation of ECI deliverables, including scope development, risk registers, approvals inputs and TOC documentation.

  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills to resolve complex project challenges.
  • Proven planning experience to support project scheduling and resource allocation.
  • Strong capability in the MS Office suite for reporting and documentation.
  • Technical qualification or equivalent industry-related experience in engineering or trade.
  • Understanding of project management processes and ability to apply them effectively.
  • Ability to build customer loyalty through effective communication and relationship management.
  • Experience collaborating with others to achieve project objectives and drive continuous improvement.
