Design Coordinator – Gas Infrastructure

Who We Are

Zinfra is a leading partner in the design, build, operation and maintenance of Australia’s energy and utilities infrastructure. Delivering an annual portfolio of more than $1.2 billion, our work helps keep energy flowing safely and reliably to communities across Australia while supporting the nation’s energy transition.

With a workforce of more than 2,800 people, we deliver complex infrastructure, asset management and field services across Australia’s east coast. Our people draw on deep industry experience, an unwavering commitment to safety, and practical innovation to deliver the right outcomes for our clients and communities.

At Zinfra, we believe great outcomes are achieved by people working together. We're looking for an experienced Design Coordinator who enjoys collaborating with others, sharing knowledge and contributing to safe, sustainable infrastructure that supports communities across Australia.

This is an opportunity to join a supportive engineering team where your technical expertise, ideas and leadership will help deliver complex gas infrastructure projects while influencing the way we design, build and maintain critical assets.

About the Role

Reporting to the Engineering Lead, you'll coordinate design activities across gas distribution and high-pressure transmission projects, working closely with engineers, operations teams, clients, consultants and contractors.

You'll play an important role in bringing people together to deliver practical, safe and compliant engineering solutions throughout the entire asset lifecycle—from concept design through construction, commissioning and ongoing operations.

This role combines technical expertise with collaboration, continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement, making it ideal for someone who enjoys building strong relationships while delivering quality engineering outcomes.

What You'll Be Doing

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Coordinating external design consultants to deliver high-quality project outcomes.
  • Facilitating collaborative design reviews with internal teams and client representatives.
  • Supporting engineering teams throughout design, procurement, construction and commissioning.
  • Championing Safety in Design principles and embedding safe outcomes into every stage of project delivery.
  • Developing Operations and Maintenance manuals, technical procedures and engineering documentation that support long-term asset performance.
  • Working closely with operational teams to ensure documentation is practical, accurate and user-focused.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement through commissioning feedback and lessons learned.
  • Supporting the development of technical standards, policies and engineering best practice.
  • Building trusted relationships across Zinfra, Jemena and our delivery partners.
  • Providing technical guidance and occasional field support during project delivery.

About You

We're looking for someone who enjoys working with others, is naturally organised and brings a thoughtful approach to engineering challenges.

You'll ideally bring:

  • A trade qualification, Engineering Diploma, Engineering Degree or equivalent industry experience.
  • Significant experience (approximately 10 years or more) within high-pressure gas infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of Australian Standards including AS 2885, AS 4041 and AS 4645.
  • Experience coordinating engineering designs and working with multidisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Understanding of Safety in Design, commissioning, quality management and technical risk.
  • Experience preparing Operations and Maintenance documentation and technical procedures.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to build positive working relationships across technical and operational teams.
  • A commitment to continuous learning, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
  • A current driver's licence for occasional site visits.

We champion and value diversity in life and work experiences, because broader perspectives strengthen our problem solving, decision making and ability to innovate.

Recruitment Process

During the recruitment process, you may be required to undertake pre-employment checks, including a pre-employment medical, reference checks and a national police check.

Notice to Third Parties

Zinfra does not accept unsolicited resumes, or liability associated with fees or costs, from recruitment agencies, search firms or other third parties. Interested candidates are welcome to submit their application independently.
