About the role

We are seeking an experienced Communications Technician that is passionate and highly motivated to work in the Melbourne metropolitan region and throughout Victoria supporting our team out of our Dandenong South depot.

As part of the role you will install, maintain, and test overhead and underground fibre optic and copper communication cables, supporting electrical distribution networks. You will work closely with fibre optic splicers and assist in ensuring projects and maintenance tasks are completed safely and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Coordinate communication network activities with internal & external stakeholders
  • Prepare & input data for work record and reporting requirements
  • Comply with flexible work practices to meet system needs
  • Ensure all the required training and authorisations are in date at all times and participate in identifying productivity, procedural and safety improvements
  • Following and conforming to all safe working practices, OHS&E principles and Australian standards
  • Participate in on-call roster as required

About You

The successful applicant will have experience working as a Communication Technician or similar and hold an Electrical Lineworker qualification (or equivalent).

  • Strong technical knowledge and experience working on some of the following communications technologies; ethernet networks including MPLS-TP, point to point and point to multipoint radio systems, multiplexing (PDH, SDH, DWDM), fibre optic networks, teleprotection systems, telephony, DC power systems
  • Ability to analyse and solve technical information, including fault finding in both the maintenance and commissioning of communications systems
  • Compare information from different sources to come to a conclusion and select an appropriate course of action
  • Ability and initiative to identify the critical resources necessary to achieve desired objectives
  • Hold a current Australian driver licence
