About the role
Are you ready to take your SCADA and OT / IT communications expertise to the field and make a real impact on critical infrastructure? Zinfra is on the hunt for a Field SCADA & Communications Engineer to join our dynamic team supporting the United Energy Electrical Network. This role will be based at our Glen Waverley depot, with hybrid working options available once the successful candidate is up to speed.
Key Responsibilities include
- Maintain and support SCADA, communication and protection systems across geographically diverse networks
- Collaborate with Host SCADA team and Field Testers to configure, commission and maintain RTUs, communications equipment and other SCADA equipment
- Deliver project and maintenance tasks including device configuration, site acceptance testing, fibre communications circuits testing and commissioning, hardware repair/replace and system updates
- Provide expert advice on upgrades and hardware improvements
About You
Join a hands-on, high-impact role where you'll help maintain and evolve critical SCADA and communications infrastructure across the United Energy Electrical Network. You'll work both independently and in teams – and be part of a 1-in-4 on-call roster, ensuring 24/7 network reliability and support when it matters most.
- Knowledge of DNP3, Modbus and IEC 60870-5-103 protocols, fibre optic networks, RF data communications (P2P, P2MP, modem and IoT). Also, an understanding of WAN / MAN area communications techniques would be highly desirable. i.e. MPLS, SD-WAN etc
- Advanced Diploma in Computer Systems Technology or similar, or extensive experience in a similar role
- Industry experience with SCADA and remote communications systems in utilities or power sectors
- Hands-on skills with RTUs (SEL, Foxbor / Schneider, CGI / Logica), WAN, MAN and LAN communications networks
- Strong problem-solving mindset and ability to work independently in high-voltage environments
