Overview of our role
The Legal Counsel – Markets role provides commercially focused legal support to our Zinfra business. Zinfra designs, builds, operates and maintains critical energy infrastructure. Working as a close business partner and embedding with the commercial and operational delivery teams you will support Zinfra to win and deliver key energy construction projects and operations/maintenance contracts for critical energy infrastructure. You will exercise strong commercial judgment and assist the business to identify and mitigate contractual risks and protect margins, enabling the business to make confident decisions and ensuring positive delivery outcomes.
You will partner with stakeholders to deliver practical and strategic legal solutions. This role will support commercial and operational teams with proactively managing contracts, claims and disputes throughout project lifecycles. The role will also involve legal project management, assisting with procurement, working with external counsel, and contributing to policies, procedures and continuous improvement across the business. You must also be able to challenge and influence senior stakeholders and project teams in an environment of complex commercial and delivery challenges while maintaining client and stakeholder relationships.
This position sits within a collaborative in‑house legal team and is designed to operate independently, while recognising when to inform and seek support from Lead Counsel, colleagues or external advisers. For strategically significant matters, you will work under the guidance of Lead Counsel.
Strong experience in infrastructure contracting and project delivery in utilities, construction or adjacent sectors will be highly valued. As will familiarity with contracting models such as ECI, D&C, EPC and alliance models.

A little about you
- Preferably a minimum of 4 years’ legal experience (post admission) providing legal advice on construction, infrastructure O&M, corporate and commercial matters, and energy more generally
- A working knowledge of dispute resolution models, approaches and practices
- A good track record of involvement in major projects and/or corporate transactions
- Solid legal experience negotiating, reviewing and drafting legal documentation including contracts
- Familiarity with issues affecting energy infrastructure will be highly regarded
Qualifications / certifications & Skills
- Bachelor of Laws or equivalent law degree
- Eligible for admission to practice law in NSW/ Victoria
- An ability to interpret / analyse complex contractual documentation and associated legal obligations
- Be commercially astute, possess strong analytical skills, and be capable of identifying and analysing multifaceted commercial and risk implications for the business
- Be able to research complex legal matters and communicate your conclusions in a clear and concise way, that is appropriately tailored for the audience
- Must possess strong drafting/negotiation skills developed from solid transactional experience
