Design Manager     

Zinfra partners with companies across the utility and infrastructure sectors to deliver Engineering, construction, maintenance and operations services. For our partners our work is crucial to maintaining the safety and reliability of their electricity and gas transmission and distribution assets. 

About the role 

The Design Manager role is to provide a comprehensive suite of engineering services to power business units. This role has overall accountability for delivery of engineering services for multiple simultaneous bids and projects in HV electricity, that are critical to generating the annual sales revenue and profit margin for the Regional Contracting business. 

Key Responsibilities include.

  • Provide effective leadership, mentoring and coaching to teams to ensure team members are motivated delivering their allocated task with high quality and in allowed timeframes.
  • Implement safety in design in all tender and detailed designs.
  • Provide detailed design proposals, to input into D&C bids, that clearly and accurately articulate deliverables, production schedule, cost and risk. 
  • Provide technical support to bids in interpreting scope and producing scope summaries and schedules.
  • Prepare customised technical packages (civil, electrical etc) consisting of tender concept design and RFT technical documents for design houses to price the detail design.
  • Develop tender concept designs at short notice for tender requests. Ensure tender designs have sufficient detail for estimators, constructors (delivery teams) suppliers and subcontractors to understand scope and properly cost the work.
  • Review and manage the developed design deliverables, including studies, reports, calculations, drawings, specifications, etc in accordance with head contract, client specifications, pertinent codes, standards and legislative requirements.
  • Facilitate and chair safety in design workshops e.g. SID, etc
  • Facilitate and chair safety in design risk workshops e.g. HAZOP, HAZID, CHAIR, etc.
  • Manage the design change record and register.

About You

  • Extensive engineering experience with Tier 1- 2 contractor in power/electricity infrastructure projects
  • Senior engineering or design management role with Design Consultant or Contractor
  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) of Engineering level (Electrical engineer preferred)
  • Engineering development of infrastructure projects including participation is large / complex D&C tenders involving options analysis and value engineering.
  • Development, implementation, and management of project specific Design Management Systems
  • Development, implementation and managing engineering work scopes, budgets and cost control.
  • Strong experience in change management.
  • Strong knowledge of pertinent codes, standards and legislative requirements
  • Excellent understanding of WHS&E principles and legislation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills
