Senior Distribution & Support Design Engineer  

Zinfra partners with companies across the utility and infrastructure sectors to deliver maintenance, operations, engineering, and construction services. For our partners our work is crucial to maintaining the safety and reliability of their electricity and gas transmission and distribution assets.  

About the role:

The Senor Distribution & Support Design Engineer is responsible for the design, leadership, negotiation, coordination and support with designers and works required by Zinfra’s Design Team based on the electrical distribution network. This role will Report to the Design Manager and assist with a basic level of management works which includes assisting and providing a level of strategic input/support and reporting on the teams operations. During times of leave taken by the Design Manager to be able to step up and take on for short periods of time their duties whilst they are not available. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead and supervise a number of Distribution Design Engineers assigned as reflected on the Zinfra Design Group Org chart.
  • Assist with the Mentoring, training and development of team members reporting to you as per the Group Org Chart.
  • Assist Operations Managers and Project Managers in the development of estimates, scopes, specifications and designs.
  • Audit designs produced by both internal and contract resources for the Distribution Design projects assigned.
  • Ensure the system integrity and design strategy is achieved by participating and influencing the direction and progression of project works.
  • Design of Network, Third party and Customer Initiated distribution construction projects to detailed specifications covering aspects of technical, safety, environmental, quality and cost requirements and ensuring they comply with relevant design standards, economic and regulatory criteria. 
  • Design, review and follow up on project design corrections and adjustments to ensure any impact on the project plan is captured, evaluated, and communicated to the project manager. Once a variation is approved, it must then be documented.

About you:

  • Experience to the electricity distribution network in design and specialist engineering services will be highly regarded. 
  • Experience in project managing distribution design works undertaken demonstrating planning, time management, communication, reporting and financial control.
  • Preparation of detailed design on substation, street lighting, underground and overhead designs up to 66KV will be highly regarded. 
  • Financial management skills to assist in unit-costing arrangements, budget preparation, profit/loss analysis and forecasting.
  • Practical experience in customer service delivery and project management financial control principles.
  • Demonstrated ability in project management skills including project definition, project scope, project administration, reporting and financial control.
