About the role

We’re seeking a capable and safety-conscious Excavator Operator to join our Canberra-based construction team. This field-based role involves operating machinery and supporting the installation of underground utilities across the ACT and surrounding areas, contributing to critical infrastructure projects that keep communities connected.

Key Responsibilities include

  • Operate excavators to support trenching, backfilling, final trim and remediation works
  • Interpret construction plans and follow field manuals to ensure compliance
  • Work collaboratively with pipelayers, contractors, and internal teams
  • Maintain high safety standards and adhere to Work Cover and HSE requirements
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders including builders, plumbers, and property owners
  • Complete timesheets and reporting accurately using systems such as Upvise
  • Ensure efficient use of equipment, materials, and resources on site

About You

You’re a hands-on operator with a strong safety mindset and a passion for delivering quality work in the field. You will also possess the following:

  • Construction tickets including White Card, Asbestos Awareness, and Traffic Management
  • Proven experience in excavator operations with license, trenching, and pipe laying
  • Medium/Heavy Rigid licence and HydroVac experience (desirable)
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
