About the role:

We’re growing our academic team at the Healthcare Academy of New Zealand (HANZ) and looking for Registered or Enrolled Nurses with a passion for education and experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • Rehabilitation (e.g. aged care, disability, continuing care)
  • Acute care
  • Mental health and addiction

As a Clinical Tutor, you’ll be a key part of delivering the Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5), supporting ākonga/learners both in the classroom and on clinical placements. This role involves guiding learners to apply theory in practice, develop essential nursing skills, and achieve the Nursing Council competencies required for registration. You’ll work closely with our Clinical Placement Coordinator and workplace preceptors to ensure a seamless, high-quality learning experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  •  Deliver engaging teaching in both face-to-face and online formats
  • Facilitate clinical learning in real-world settings alongside preceptors
  • Support ākonga to meet academic and clinical expectations
  • Assess learner progress and readiness for final Nursing Council exams
  • Contribute to curriculum development and continuous programme improvement
  • Collaborate with clinical partners to maintain high placement standards


About you:  

You are an enthusiastic, knowledgeable clinician who values education and is ready to invest in developing future nurses. You thrive in diverse teaching environments, are confident communicating across cultures, and understand the importance of both academic and practical learning in preparing students for professional practice.

Required Skills/Experience:

  •  Registered or Enrolled Nurse with a current NZ Practising Certificate
  • Post-registration or postgraduate qualification in nursing or a related field
  • Minimum of 3 years’ recent clinical experience in one or more relevant practice areas
  • Experience supervising or supporting learners in clinical settings
  • Adult teaching qualification (or commitment to complete within 2 years)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to cultural responsiveness and Te Tiriti o Waitangi
  • Prior tertiary or vocational teaching experience
  • Understanding of Kaupapa Māori, mātauranga Māori, and tikanga
  • Valid New Zealand driver’s licence
