About the role:

The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting the volunteers of Yarrawonga Health (YH) who are an integral part of the health services teams.

The Volunteer Coordinator will support YH volunteers through a coordinated approach to recruitment, training and orientation into specific roles. This role will also promote and develop innovative and creative roles that support the health service’s staff, residents and carers. The Co Ordinator of Volunteers will also manage the rostering of volunteers from the local community.

The Volunteer Coordinator will work closely with the Community Engagement Manager, the Leisure & Lifestyle staff and relevant unit Managers to ensure that volunteers are supported in line with the National Standards of Engaging Volunteers. The role is also responsible for promotion of volunteering and other deliverables of the Community Engagement Strategy that are relevant to volunteering

Key Accountabilities:

Service Delivery

  • Develop and maintain volunteer marketing kits for potential volunteers;
  • Co-ordinate celebrations and events such as Volunteer Week, Walk across the Bridge as agreed upon with the Community Engagement Manager;
  • Consult broadly with clinical and corporate teams to achieve meaningful and integrated volunteer program that is valued by staff, patients and the community;
  • Work closely with the Community Engagement Manger & the Marketing & Communications Manager to promote the role of volunteers to professionals and the wider community;
  • Grow and embed the Volunteer Palliative Care Program in conjunction with the Community Engagement Manager, YH Nurse Practitioners.

Volunteer Coordination:

  • Act as a referral point for community members wishing to be volunteers;
  • Evaluate the needs of volunteers and seek to address this through initiatives as approved by the Community Engagement Manager;
  • Ensure volunteers are engaged according to the Health Service’s volunteer’s program, including orientation, training and support and annual reviews utilising the Better Impact data management system;
  • Manage individual and collective volunteer performance. If necessary, manage performance issues in line with YH disciplinary and/or grievance processes;
  • Grow & strengthen the Intergenerational Volunteer Program across YH.

Community Engagement

  • Working initially closely with the Community Engagement Manager, promote and coordinate recruitment of volunteers including Palliative Care Volunteers, Helping Hands Committee volunteers;
  • Support volunteers in their role through communication such as newsletters, regular meetings and addressing concerns or issues raised.

Key Selection Criteria:

Essential:

  • Ability to determine priorities, multi-task and organise workload effectively and efficiently;
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team as well as independently and address team needs with flexibility and respect;
  • Excellent interpersonal and collaborative skills.
  • Superior people management skills. Able to identify and manage issues both informally and formally in a structured and timely manner;
  • Demonstrated experience of coordinating programs / activities or teams of people;
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with ability to use initiative and adapt to changes within the framework of the unit and volunteering trends;
  • High level communication skills, both written and verbal;
  • Knowledge of and skills in the use of MS Office and other software programs as required.

Desirable:

  • Experience in volunteer coordination, preferably in a health or aged care environment;
  • Team building experience with a track record of building strong working relationships and a positive work environment;
  • Current Driver’s Licence;
  • Tertiary qualification in an appropriate discipline would be well regarded;
  • Established network within the local area;
  • Experience in working with a range of aged groups within a community including childcare to year 12 aged groups.
