As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will take on a crucial role as the Geotechnical Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME). Your contributions will be instrumental in ensuring the successful delivery and excellence of our projects. By providing technical leadership within the discipline, you will drive the achievement of project goals and elevate the performance of our team. This will see you working within an established and friendly team of highly skilled professionals at our centrally located Perth CBD office.

What you’ll do:

Enjoy the opportunity to work across a wide range of projects, including mining, heavy haul rail, roads, and NPI infrastructure. You will contribute to various project phases, from studies and design delivery to solving construction problems and conducting site investigations. This role offers a rewarding chance to see your work come to life, from the initial stages through to completion, and witness the fruition of your efforts.

  • Work on a wide range of multidisciplinary projects for tier 1 and tier 2 clients within the mining industry.
  • Provide technical expertise and advice on complex geotechnical engineering projects during different stages of the project lifecycle, starting from feasibility studies and design strategies to construction and commissioning.
  • Provide construction advisory and support, and oversee geotechnical engineers traveling to site.
  • Undertake occasional ad hoc travel to site for overnight visits, with an option to take on more site time if preferred.
  • Review technical deliverables such as technical option reports, engineering principles and studies, detailed designs, and test procedures to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Conduct technical reviews of more junior staff's work and documents issued to the client.
  • Apply a comprehensive understanding of engineering principles to create and deliver practical and economical fit-for-purpose solutions that meet client requirements.
  • Coordinate the production of documentation, specifications, and project deliverables within agreed project timeframes and budget.
  • Mentor and guide less experienced engineers to ensure the geotechnical engineering staff are appropriately trained to carry out their roles safely and efficiently.
  • As required, provide support through peer reviewing other projects within the business and support the Capital Projects group by working on major mining projects.

About You

You’re likely to have demonstrated experience working on mining non-process infrastructure (NPI) and general civil infrastructure geotechnical projects. In addition, you will bring the following skills and attributes:

  • Bachelor of Engineering or Science Degree in Civil Engineering or Geology.
  • Master's Degree or PhD are beneficial but not required.
  • 15+ years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering or geology.
  • Strong mining industry experience across advisory, study, design, and project delivery, this including experience on NPI, rail and civil infrastructure projects.
  • Exceptional technical knowledge including in-depth technical undertaking of the geotechnical engineering field.
  • Ability to interpret, analyse and communicate information of a more complex nature and understanding of confidentiality of information.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, having impact and influence with the capacity to build professional relationships both internally and client facing.
  • High level consulting and client management skills.
  • Ability to lead teams through technical guidance, and as required provide mentoring to junior team members.
