What you’ll do:
This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing the strategy, management, and delivery of environmental approvals across major projects and operations. It will play a key role in ensuring project compliance with environmental legislation and policy, while fostering sustainable development and positive stakeholder relationships. This role is broken up into 3 main components;
Approvals Management -
- Oversee and provide technical guidance for the preparation, submission, and management of environmental approval documents, such as Environmental Impact Statements (EIS), Environmental Management Plans (EMP), and related assessments.
- Lead cross-functional teams in addressing complex environmental approval challenges across multiple jurisdictions and sectors (e.g., infrastructure, energy, mining, water, waste).
- Ensure all environmental approvals are obtained within required timeframes and budgets, adopting best practices and innovative approaches where possible.
- Champion the use of advanced assessment tools, modelling techniques, and data analytics to support environmental approvals.
Stakeholder Engagement -
- Build and maintain strong relationships with regulators, government agencies, Indigenous and local communities, non-governmental organisations, and project partners.
- Facilitate public consultation processes, responding to stakeholder enquiries and concerns in a transparent and professional manner.
- Prepare and review technical reports, approval submissions, and board-level briefings.
Compliance & Risk -
- Monitor and interpret evolving environmental legislation, regulations, guidelines, and standards relevant to project approvals.
- Develop and maintain robust risk management systems to ensure project compliance and manage potential environmental liabilities.
- Lead audits and investigations into environmental compliance matters, reporting findings and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
About You
This role is suited to someone looking for a position that combines deep technical expertise, high-level strategic thinking, stakeholder engagement, and cross-disciplinary collaboration with State Leads, Technical Directors, and a multidisciplinary team to ensure practical, policy-aligned outcomes. We are looking for;
- 15+ years of experience working in a Consultancy environment with experience working on WA based resources projects.
- Extensive experience in environmental approvals, regulatory compliance, or environmental management at a senior level.
- Demonstrated track record in successfully managing major project approvals within complex, multi-stakeholder environments.
- Deep understanding of environmental legislation, approval pathways, and regulatory frameworks (local, state, national, and international), particularly Pilbara area approvals.
- Expertise in environmental impact assessment methodologies, risk analysis, and regulatory submission requirements.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including experience in preparing executive-level reports and delivering presentations to senior stakeholders.
- Demonstrated cultural competency and experience working with Indigenous groups and other key community stakeholders.
