The opportunity

As an Associate/Senior Associate Consultant in the Occupational Hygiene and Hazardous Materials team, your primary focus is to protect workers' health, and provide guidance to clients in order for them to meet their health, safety, and legislative requirements regarding the workplace, occupational exposure, and hazardous materials.

We've recently delivered asbestos, hazardous materials, and occupational hygiene consultancy services for clients such as the NSW Department of Education, Department of Defence, Westfield Shopping Centres, Australia Post, Westpac Banking Corporation, AMPOL, CSIRO and 7-Eleven.

Based in our Sydney office, you’ll be part of a dynamic NSW and national network of consultants — with flexibility to work from home around site commitments.

Responsibilities include:

  • Conduct comprehensive occupational health risk assessments for hazards including but not limited to silica, noise, chemical exposures, vibration, lead, asbestos, biological hazards, and indoor air quality
  • Use cutting edge equipment and methods to monitor workers for exposure to hazards
  • Perform indoor air quality testing and analysis
  • Design effective strategies for hazard remediation and prevention management
  • Undertake technical supervision, inspections, and monitoring during site remediation works
  • Assess health risks and provide expert advice with support from senior technical specialists and Certified Occupational Hygienists (COH)
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams working with WSP internal teams such as acoustics, contaminated land, engineering, and property risk
  • Produce technical reports to a high standard, including technical peer review of reports
  • Strong professional development, with opportunity to be mentored by Certified Occupational Hygienists, and mentor junior staff
  • Assist the team with strategy and business development
  • Nurture client relationships to expand regional business opportunities

About you

You are likely to have 10+ years of experience in measuring and assessing workplace hazards including environmental factors as well as hazardous materials, chemical, physical, ergonomic, and biological hazards.

You will ideally bring the following:

  • Previous consultancy experience is required
  • Good understanding of project life cycle, taking initiative to develop relationships with clients, whilst maintaining high standards of service delivery
  • Experience in business development including development of winning proposals and building ongoing client relationships
  • Confidence to communicate hazards and risks with clients, from the boardroom to the field
  • Experience in analysing complex results and datasets, and writing technical reports, with a desire to progress your project management skills
  • Strong knowledge of work health and safety regulations, or health risk assessment
  • High attention to detail and responsive to clients’ needs
  • Be willing to work remotely, with occasional weekends and overtime
  • Australian Driver's License
  • You're likely to have tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene, Health or Environmental Science
  • NSW Licensed Asbestos Assessor (LAA) highly valued
