Join our Generation & New Energy Team in Brisbane or Melbourne 

Play a key role in the design and delivery of industrial control and communication systems for electrical protection in power stations. As a  Senior or Associate Control Systems Engineer, you’ll be part of WSP’s Generation & New Energy team, where every day brings new challenges and opportunities to apply your expertise across thermal and renewable energy projects. 

You’ll collaborate with talented professionals and work closely with clients to assess and implement emerging energy generation solutions. This role offers the chance to deepen your technical capabilities while contributing to innovative, future-focused energy infrastructure. 

About Our Energy Team 

WSP’s Energy team partners with clients to solve complex technical challenges in the clean energy transition. Our work spans renewables and battery energy storage systems (BESS), modern thermal generation, and transmission and distribution—delivering efficient, reliable, and resilient outcomes across Australia and beyond. 

What you’ll do

  • Apply your technical expertise across thermal and renewable power generation projects, including gas turbines (OCGT/CCGT), coal-fired and hydro power stations 
  • Support the design and delivery of control and instrumentation systems (PLC, DCS), functional safety systems (AS 61511), and EEHA-compliant designs 
  • Contribute to the development of control and protection system communications using industrial protocols (Modbus, DNP3, Ethernet/IP, OPC) and IEC 61850 networks 
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers on secondary systems such as protection and excitation systems 
  • Perform electrical engineering analysis and ensure compliance with Australian Standards and relevant legislation 
  • Review and verify engineering drawings, reports, and technical documentation 
  • Provide expert input across multiple projects, ensuring alignment with WSP’s quality systems and client expectations 
  • Support project planning, cost and schedule management, and risk mitigation 
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical development within the team 
  • Maintain professional networks and support client engagement and satisfaction 
  • Comply with all role-specific SHEQ obligations 

About You 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent 
  • Chartered status (CPEng) and registration (RPEQ, RPEV), or working towards 
  • Proven experience in thermal and renewable power generation projects 
  • Proven track record in delivering complex projects within consultancy environments 
  • Strong understanding of safety in design, risk management, and QA/OH&S systems 
  • Skilled in technical reporting, stakeholder engagement, and mentoring 
  • Active involvement in industry associations and commitment to continuous improvement 
  • Ability to manage scope across multiple projects and deliver best client outcomes
