Lead the delivery of Australia’s next generation of transport infrastructure

With a strong pipeline of major transport infrastructure projects across Australia, we’re seeking a Principal Civil Engineer to provide technical leadership, client influence and strategic direction across complex, multi‑disciplinary transport programs.
This is a senior role for a respected civil engineering leader who thrives on solving complex problems, guiding teams, and delivering smarter, more sustainable outcomes for clients.
Your impact
As a Principal Civil Engineer in our Transport business, you will lead the end‑to‑end delivery of significant transport infrastructure projects while shaping technical excellence, commercial outcomes and client relationships. Your role will include:
- Providing technical leadership across transport infrastructure planning, design and delivery, including roads and associated civil works
- Leading and reviewing complex engineering designs in line with DIT standards, Austroads and Australian Standards
- Acting as a trusted technical advisor to clients, regulators and internal stakeholders
- Driving high‑quality project outcomes across scope, cost, time, quality and risk
- Applying strong project management and governance capability, with clear commercial and contractual awareness
- Leading and supporting teams of engineers through bidding, pursuits and project delivery
- Establishing and maintaining long‑term relationships with key transport clients and stakeholders
- Identifying smarter, more efficient and sustainable engineering solutions that challenge convention
- Championing Safety in Design, quality systems and ethical engineering practice
- Mentoring and developing engineers, building capability and future leaders within WSP
About you
You’re an established transport infrastructure professional with the credibility to influence outcomes at project, client and organisational level. You bring:
- A degree in Civil Engineering with Chartered status (CPEng) or equivalent
- Strong experience in the Australian transport infrastructure sector
- Deep technical capability across transport infrastructure design, planning and delivery
- Proven familiarity with DIT standards, Austroads and Australian Standards
- DIT project experience (highly desirable)
- Demonstrated success leading technical teams across complex, multi‑disciplinary projects
- Strong strategic problem‑solving skills and the ability to influence diverse stakeholders
- Experience establishing and maintaining trusted relationships with key clients
- Solid experience in project management, governance and commercial decision‑making
- A future‑focused mindset that actively challenges conventional thinking and seeks innovative, sustainable solutions
