We are looking for a highly experienced Senior Data Analyst to join our innovative Brisbane offices and be an integral part of our National Data Science team.

Digital 

Our Digital team applies the latest technological innovations to our client’s complex problems across sectors and projects. 

Our integrated service combines not only Data Analytics, but a full suite of Digital solutions including software development, Geospatial, Visualisation, Digital Engineering, and Cloud Technologies to deliver information and efficiency that supports decision-making, time and cost savings, and improved community outcomes. 

The team are spread all over the east coast of Australia, with a wide variety of skills from application development, spatial analysis, map production, modelling, reporting and data manipulation and acquisition. 

As our Senior Data Analyst, you will be responsible for identifying, prioritising, and solving complex engineering business problems by developing advanced statistical analysis and business intelligence (BI) solutions. This includes creating and maintaining data pipelines, performing data cleansing, transforming data into insightful dashboards and reports, and providing actionable insights to support decision-making processes. 

You will also be working with a range of government and commercial clients to enhance the operation and maintenance of many critical infrastructure systems that keep our world moving - Many of our clients operate large-scale, network-based systems such as road, rail, and water supply networks, with tangible outcomes that affect us all. 

Some of the exciting projects the team have worked on, have included: 

Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) - TMR have tested and deployed Cooperative Intelligent Transport Systems (C-ITS) in real-world, large-scale deployments in Queensland. WSP has been working with TMR to provide technical expert support, including centralised application development and the Integration and DevOps of AWS Cloud Infrastructure. 

Sydney Water - In response to high-volume breakdown maintenance activities, the DevOps team designed and implemented a new approach to planning and scheduling mechanical and electrical asset maintenance. 

Telstra Digital Workflow - We developed an online forms service that allows NSW Family and Community Services (FACS) applicants to fill out, submit, and manage applications and responsible parties to be notified and contribute to the application workflow. 

Energy Rating – We built a website that facilitates evaluating and issuing of energy ratings for electrical appliances for sale in Australia and New Zealand.

A typical day for a Senior Data Analyst at WSP would look like (but not be limited to): 

· Working with clients to understand their needs and devise novel solutions. 

· Collaborating with other engineering and digital disciplines, such as Digital engineering and Location Intelligence, to deliver complex multi-disciplinary projects across various engineering fields. 

· Anticipate, characterise, and manage complex real-world data's limitations and implications, conceiving effective workarounds or alternative mitigations to deliver successful outcomes. 

· Taking corrective action and making tough decisions to recover or successfully implement projects. 

· Working with massive and complex data sets from multiple sources, utilising big data tools and techniques to analyse, provide insight and validate hypotheses. 

· Translating analytical insights into concrete, actionable recommendations for business, process, or product improvements. 

· Making recommendations for the collection of new data or the refinement of existing data sources and storage. 

· Collaborating with subject matter experts to deliver and solve real-world engineering problems. 

· Collaborating across the business to influence change and bring ideas to life. 

· Creating solutions that will benefit the wider community. 

· Contributing to creating a more sustainable future. 

What we'll love about you: 

You will have an extensive experience as a Senior Data Analyst - experience may be a mix of corporate or government and experience in Asset Management and/or Water industry would be seen as very useful.  

Enthusiasm for consulting and winning work by building client relationships is also key to be successful in this role. 

You can ideate and set vision and scope for complex data-driven projects, including a deep understanding of client value-proposition and stakeholder needs.  

Required extensive experience in:

  • Data transformation and understanding new datasets 
  • BI platforms such as PowerBI 
  • FME, GIS and Ellipse data would also be favourable, but not required.  

Skills that would be advantageous, but not required: 

  • Understanding of core data analyst, statistical concepts and methods, and knowledge of data schemas such as asset classes 
  • Knowledge and experience in AWS and/or Azure. 
  • Experience with Data Warehousing. 
  • Ability to manipulate and analyse complex, high-volume, high-dimensionality data and metadata from varying sources. 
  • Passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data. 
  • Proven history of successful client adoption and/or operationalisation of analytical and statistical reports 
  • Expert knowledge of analytical tools and cloud data services 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relational/structured data manipulation 
  • Ability to communicate complex quantitative analysis in a clear, precise, and actionable manner. 
  • Analytical approach that allows for results at varying levels of precision. 
  • Strong ability to mentor junior staff. 
  • Solid understanding with software engineering practice & principles. 
  • Preference for Python based software development experience
