What if you could shape the career of a lifetime?

With us, you can.

The demand for land is rising. As greenfield sites become scarce, there is a need to rehabilitate existing sites for new uses. In dealing with the impact of site contamination while mitigating potential risks to human health and the environment, we are prioritising sustainable long-term solutions.

To support us on this journey, we’re looking for an entry-level Consultant to join our Contaminated Land Management (CLM) team in Melbourne. We are open to both full-time and part-time arrangements.

What you’ll do

Most of your work will involve conducting fieldwork to gather environmental data including soil, groundwater, soil vapor, ambient air, and landfill gas sampling. You will subsequently help manipulate and interpret large data sets based on information collected in the field.

At WSP, we are committed to nurturing and developing the next generation of Changemakers through mentorship and structured development programs.

This opportunity offers exposure to diverse activities and cross-functional collaborations with our Water, Geotechnical, Remediation, and Environmental Engineering teams, laying a solid foundation for your future career development, including:

  • Interacting with clients and internal stakeholders
  • Environmental monitoring and sample collection
  • Managing contractors
  • Analysis data and preparing technical reports
  • Contributing to project planning and budget management
  • Drafting project proposals

Our recent projects include:

  • University of Melbourne – environmental assessment and remediation of the complex former Holden site in Port Melbourne, to support redevelopment of this prize location as a future learning campus
  • Orica Australia – environmental assessment, probabilistic cost and volume modelling, and soil and groundwater remediation to support Audit of the two main Orica sites in Victoria: Yarraville and Deer Park
  • Viva Energy – geotechnical and environmental assessment, environmental management and compliance, boundary containment system operation and maintenance, contamination management and operations environmental services
  • Victorian rail and road infrastructure projects – client and contractor-side geotechnical and environmental site assessment services for multiple projects
  • Property Development – acquisition due-diligence, duty to manage/general environmental duty, environmental assessment for development, pre-development remediation and construction support to numerous clients

Our project pipeline is strong with increasing work in the aviation and airports space (national and international airline and airport clients), Government and Commonwealth project sites (Defence and Airservices, among others) as well as remote and mine-swing works interstate.

About you

The successful candidate will likely be a recent graduate in an Environmental or Natural Science discipline and be a passionate, curious and adaptable team player.

You will also bring the following skills and attributes:

  • Technical knowledge of contaminants and remediation principles
  • Ideally some understanding of site assessment, sampling and survey techniques – including soil, groundwater, surface water, soil vapour and/or landfill gas sampling, along with management of specialist subcontractors (e.g. drillers and surveyors) on-site
  • Be willing to undertake active fieldwork 75% of the time
  • Hold a full Australian Driver’s License
  • Demonstrates initiative, and ready and willing to embrace new challenges
  • Strong time management and problem-solving skills
