We are looking for a passionate Principal Ecologist / Zoologist to join us in our Perth office.
You will be part of a national team of experts, including botanists, zoologists, environmental planners, scientists, and engagement specialists, and work on multi-disciplinary infrastructure, renewable energy and local government projects.
You will be responsible for leading and delivering complex zoological surveys, assessments, and research projects in the Perth and wider Western Australian market. You’ll work closely with clients, government agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to provide expert advice on biodiversity, threatened species, and habitat management. Your role will also involve business development, project management, and supporting the strategic growth of our ecology team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, lead, and manage large-scale fauna surveys and ecological assessments
- Provide expert advice on threatened species, biodiversity offsets, and wildlife management
- Prepare high-quality technical reports, proposals, and presentations
- Engage with clients, regulatory authorities, and stakeholders
- Mentor and develop a small team of junior ecologists
- Contribute to business development and tender submissions
- Stay abreast of current research, regulatory changes, and best practice in zoology and conservation
About You
You're likely to have previous consulting/advisory experience in undertaking ecological assessments in the various bioregions across Western Australia.
You will also bring the following experience and attributes:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in zoology, ecology, or environmental science
- Extensive experience in fauna surveys and ecological consulting in Western Australia
- Extensive project management experience, with demonstrated ability to deliver complex, multi-stakeholder projects on time and within budget
- Leadership track record, including mentoring, team building, and conflict resolution
- Strong knowledge of ecological principles, current research, and Commonwealth and State environmental legislation
- Proficiency in ecological survey design, fieldwork, data analysis (including statistical packages), and impact assessment methodologies
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with demonstrated experience writing technical reports and presenting findings to diverse audiences
- Experience with business development, client management, and proposal writing is highly desirable
- Current driver’s licence and willingness to travel for fieldwork, meetings, and conferences
