The Opportunity:

With several exciting opportunities in the pipeline, our Newcastle office is seeking another Associate Structural Engineer to join their expanding team. Joining the Resources team, you will exercise expertise in designing and specifying structural systems for safe, sound and optimal performance to meet Client expectations regarding quality, budget and schedule. 

What you will do:

  • Work as part of an established team of structural engineers within a multi-disciplined engineering team to deliver a diverse range of mine process and non-process infrastructure projects
  • Prepare preliminary and detailed designs, specifications and documentation for all structural engineering project work, ensuring compliance with conditions and parameters set out in the project scope of works.
  • Undertake design calculations for process and material handling structures, including (but not limited to), buildings, conveyors, retaining structures, footings, bins/silos
  • Conduct structural integrity inspections for the existing mining infrastructure, travelling to the site when required
  • Assisting with project scope and budget development in response to client's needs
  • Be capable of successfully managing and executing projects within the structural discipline to meet quality, budget and schedule expectations.
  • Be capable of leading a team of engineers for large project delivery and providing critical feedback on technical designs as part of the peer review process.
  • Review and assess work by other structural engineers, and provide guidance to discipline junior engineers.
  • Monitor each project’s progress from initial to final stages, resolving technical design queries that arise, deriving appropriate engineering solutions, and initiating remedial action where required.
  • Liaise with Client representatives, engineers of all disciplines, project leaders and construction leaders as required to ensure all project requirements are understood, communicated and implemented expediently. 
  • Ensure conformance to all regulations, standards, codes and guidelines and best industry practices.
  • Ensure conformance to all engineering, Quality and HS&E systems and procedures including those for design, procurement, construction and reporting. Effective management of HS&E to ensure safe operations which comply with relevant HS&E Legislation and Standards
  • Maintain awareness of industry developments and advancement, and become familiar with new technologies
  • Assist in building co-operative working relationships with clients and colleagues to contribute to project and company success. Foster a cohesive environment and maximise each project’s effectiveness
  • Protect the company’s interest and property at all times, and maintain confidentiality.

 

About you:

You’re likely to have demonstrable skills or experience in the following areas:

  • Typically, 8+ years of local design consultant experience within the resources industry
  • Chartered member of Engineers Australia or eligible to achieve.
  • Sound understanding of Australian Standards and industry standards.
  • Being flexible and able to travel as the project requires.
  • Demonstrated experience in structural engineering analysis & design.
  • Proficiency in Structural Software i.e. Space Gas, STRAND 7, Microstran, or similar.
  • Knowledge of AUTOCAD and associated drafting tools.
  • Sound understanding of the design of structures housing vibrating equipment and associated fatigue design.
  • Demonstrable ability to execute quality assurance, project delivery and project team leadership.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and verbal communication abilities to both internal and external stakeholders.
