The opportunity

WSP is pleased to announce a new opportunity for a motivated and forward‑thinking leader to join us as National Operations Executive, Ecology within our Earth & Environment group in Australia.

In this role, you will help guide the future of our Ecology business unit, supporting sustainable growth, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency, and fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence across the team and the wider business.

The location is flexible, ideally in Sydney or Brisbane, however we welcome candidates from any major cities in Australia.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide operational support to drive sustainable business performance across the Ecology BU
  • Advance the strategic framework for Ecology to grow market share and achieve profitable growth, aligned with global standards
  • Establish and implement frameworks for budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, in line group processes and timelines
  • Coordinate, monitor, and report on performance and agreed KPIs, identifying risks and opportunities
  • Own and drive growth initiatives in new capabilities, e.g. Aquatic, Marine, Heritage, and emerging regional/mining sectors (QLD/SA/WA)
  • Foster a collaborative, growth-oriented culture within Ecology, ensuring ‘one team’ delivery for exceptional client outcomes
  • Ensure market-leading talent attraction and retention, so that the Ecology Business Unit meets both current and future client needs
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with key clients, fostering a client-centric approach within the BU
  • Improve work-winning success rates and increase work from strategically identified sectors
  • Lead high-performing teams, including remote employees, to deliver sustainable business outcomes
  • Support and promote ongoing professional development for all team members.
  • Coordinate pipeline reporting to identify opportunities and improve ROI and win rates
  • Conduct research to inform strategic pursuits and develop effective client-centric practices
  • Act as Project Director on major projects as needed


About you

You will likely have over 15 years of upper management experience, including 5+ years in a large professional services consultancy, and a track record in an Operations function, overseeing 50+ staff and managing a P&L.

You will also bring:

  • Exceptional understanding of the commercial functions essential for supporting the detailed design phase of major infrastructure projects, specifically with a Capex exceeding $1 billion
  • A thoughtful and engaging leadership style, demonstrating the ability to navigate ambiguity and shape the strategic direction of the organisation
  • Proficiency in evaluating an organisation's status, collaborating with stakeholders, and formulating strategic plans with a commercial focus
  • Ability to identify and mitigate risks, ensuring optimal resource allocation to meet objectives and deliverables within specified timelines
  • Extensive experience in managing relationships with key clients to foster positive partnerships and enhance business growth
  • Strong knowledge of performance reporting, financial management, and budgeting processes
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, fostering effective collaboration and communication channels within the organization and with external stakeholders
