WSP Golder is a leader in Future Ready end-to-end mining solutions and delivery services. Our team is growing and we have a new full-time opportunity within our Mining team for a Junior/Intermediate Geo-environmental, Geotechnical or Tailings Engineer, based in Brisbane, Perth or Newcastle.

We have developed internal standards and several tools for the design and closure of tailings facilities and other mine waste facilities

 Key duties and responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the integration of engineering and geotechnical assessments to closure design projects ranging from concept to detailed design
  • Developing closure design criteria for mine waste facilities aligned with international best practice including assisting driving our Global Closure Strategy through attendance at team events, planning sessions, technical conferences and training courses
  • Geotechnical characterisation and specification of materials for closure of mine waste facilities (cover materials, erosion protection materials, etc.)
  • Application of geotechnical concepts, analyses, and modelling to assess long term stability of mine waste facilities (long term drainage, settlements and consolidation, slope stability, infiltration)
  • Identifying and designing measures to control long term stability of mine waste facilities based on industry best practice and available benchmarks
  • Preparation of project engineering documentation, including reports, specifications, engineering calculation sheets, risk assessments and concept sketches
  • Supporting the management of closure projects with technical co-ordination, client liaison and project controls including addressing technical review comments and responding to Client requests; and
  • Preparing technical deliverables such as proposals, reports, drawings and specifications under senior review

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining, Geotechnical or Geo-environmental Engineering with at least 1 -2 years of work experience
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical/civil design and analysis, ideally with a focus in landforms and covers for closure
  • Experience with numerical modelling packages such as GeoStudio, Soil Vision, CONDES, FS CONSOL, Caesar, Geofluv, Siberia
  • Demonstrated experience in geotechnical analyses (seepage, stability, consolidation, etc)
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and within a team environment
