What you’ll do:

WSP Australia is seeking a highly experienced Civil Team Leader / Principal Civil Engineer to join our growing Mining business in Brisbane. This hybrid leadership and technical role is ideal for an accomplished Principal Civil Engineer who is ready to lead people, strengthen client relationships, and guide delivery across a diverse portfolio of mining and sustaining capital projects.

Lead the Team

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to a team of civil engineers and designers.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative, and inclusive team culture.
  • Mentor, coach, and develop early- and mid‑career professionals.
  • Support recruitment, capability development, and resource planning.

Drive Technical Excellence

  • Act as the technical authority for civil engineering within the Mining group.
  • Lead and review designs across earthworks, drainage, roads, pavements, utilities, and non-process infrastructure.
  • Ensure engineering quality, safety in design, compliance, and efficient delivery.
  • Champion best practice, innovative design methods, and digital engineering.

Deliver

  • Oversee civil engineering delivery across multiple sustaining capital and mining projects.
  • Lead scopes from concept through to detailed design and execution support.
  • Work closely with major mining clients to understand operational needs and deliver practical, robust engineering solutions.
  • Support bids, proposals, and the development of new business opportunities.

About You

  • Exceptional experience in a consultancy environment in the area of civil mining infrastructure in a team leader or similar role
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or relevant qualification
  • Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ)
  • Extensive knowledge of civil engineering to deliver a broad range of civil engineering projects, including earthworks design, road design, drainage infrastructure, site water management systems, levees, creek diversions and dams
  • Ability to build relationships and develop business
  • Experience in managing the engineering scope of multiple projects varying in complexity and size

To thrive in this role, you'll be an independent thinker able to challenge norms, develop new ideas and keen to progress environmentally sustainable engineering solutions. We're hoping you will come with an established profile within industry associations, e.g. active involvement in shaping the industry through committees, industry bodies, delivering papers, etc and good interpersonal skills.
