Ready to power the future of Australia’s energy infrastructure?

WSP is growing our Power & Energy business, and we’re looking for a future‑focused Senior or Associate Civil Engineer to join our expanding Renewable Energy team. This national role puts you at the centre of Australia’s most complex and high‑profile energy projects, while giving you the opportunity to step into a clear leadership pathway within a rapidly scaling business.

You'll lead civil design packages for wind farms, solar farms, BESS facilities, HV substations (AIS/GIS), transmission corridors and conventional generation sites. You’ll shape projects from early concepts through to IFC, coordinating closely with electrical, structural and geotechnical teams while acting as the go‑to specialist for grading, drainage, stormwater and access design.

What You’ll Do

You’ll deliver civil engineering inputs across the full lifecycle of energy projects, covering bulk earthworks, platform grading, cut/fill, benching, ESC plans, laydown areas and crane pads. You’ll lead drainage and stormwater design, including hydrology/hydraulics, pit‑and‑pipe, culverts, overland flow, detention/retention, WSUD, flood immunity, creek diversions and scour protection.

You’ll design roads and pavements (access/haul roads, hardstands, subgrade assessment, pavement design, oversize turning paths), and deliver civil works for substations and BESS, including platforms, surface drainage, oil containment, cable trench corridors and crane/delivery access geometry. Your work will extend to solar platforms, O&M surrounds, MV station pads, crane pads and turbine interface layouts along with transmission access and crossings. You’ll also complete technical assessments (quarry, traffic, water, noise, geotech), produce high‑quality design deliverables, act as Owner’s Engineer for EPC design reviews and inspections, and provide leadership through design reviews, Safety‑in‑Design sessions and bid input.

Tools & Standards: You’ll work with 12D or Civil3D, OpenRoads, HEC‑RAS/TUFLOW, MUSIC, AutoCAD and QGIS/ArcGIS, applying industry standards including ARR 2019, Austroads, AS 3798, AS 2067, AS 2159, AS 1726, AS 4678, relevant AS 5100 elements, plus local authority and environmental guidelines.

About You

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Chartered (CPEng/NER/RPEQ) or close to achieving
  • 10+ years’ experience in civil design (consulting or EPC), ideally in energy or large‑scale infrastructure
  • Strong technical capability in grading, drainage, stormwater and pavements
  • Confident leading civil packages and coordinating across disciplines
  • Experienced mentoring juniors and guiding drafters
  • Excellent communicator with clients, contractors and suppliers
  • Willing to travel to site as required
