The opportunity

We are currently looking for a Project Finance Administrator with demonstrated experience in understanding and controlling finances within an engineering consulting project environment. This role forms part of WSP Australia’s Finance team and will support our Defence clients / projects.

The role will be based in our Canberra or Sydney office with the option to work from home 2 days/week (if desired).

This is a pivotal role in which you will build relationships with Project Managers, Commercial Managers and Corporate Finance whilst being part of a large group of like-minded professionals across Australia.

You will:

  • Hold Australian Citizenship.
  • Make project accounting recommendations throughout the Project Lifecycle
  • Monitor project budgets and costs, and investigate any variances with planned value.
  • Interpret financial information to support project management and commercial decisions.
  • Champion data integrity and ensure accurate financial information is recorded in the ERP.
  • Assist with subcontractor engagements.
  • Prepare and submit payment claims to clients
  • Manage multiple major Defence projects of varying values at any given time
  • Attend project-related meetings to inform the team regarding the status of project financials
  • Articulating problem projects and/or project risks, and following up on any identified actions as discussed

The successful candidate will be a team player, and able to work with a range of stakeholders and the team.

Your experience will include:

  • 3-7 years' prior experience in a similar role in project accounting or project cost control in an engineering consulting environment.
  • Knowledge in cost control and earned value management.
  • Prior experience working on Defence projects (ideal)
  • Tertiary qualifications highly regarded.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Strong MS Excel knowledge
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

Whilst you will ideally have previous Project Finance experience, we're also open to talking to a commercially savvy accountant who wants to influence the business to create value or a contract administrator with engineering/construction experience keen to transition to finance.
