What you’ll do:
As a Manager Geotechnical and Rock Mechanics within WSP’s Mine Advisory team, you will play a key role in delivering technical support to a broad range of clients across the mining lifecycle. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned geotechnical engineer with experience in mine operations and study work, who’s ready to step into a leadership role while remaining hands-on with technical project work.
You’ll work alongside multidisciplinary teams including mining engineers, geologists, environmental consultants and project managers; supporting projects that span exploration, operational support, due diligence, studies, and closure planning.
- Provide technical advice and managerial input on complex mining and geotechnical issues to clients and internal staff including but not limited to geotechnical data analysis, modelling, technical reviews, ground support design, and technical due diligence.
- Lead and oversee growth of the geotechnical and rock mechanics team with a sound understanding of industry needs.
- Develop strong working relationships and leverage the global WSP capability to support team development, opportunity conversion and the quality of our deliverables.
- Lead and contribute to scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility and due diligence studies.
- Collaborate with clients and internal stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver fit-for-purpose solutions.
- Mentor team members and support their technical development within the Mine Advisory team.
- Demonstrate active contribution and engagement as part of the Mine Engineering Geology executive team.
- Contribute to business development by identifying new opportunities, developing relationships and supporting proposals and bids.
About You
You’ll bring strong technical foundations, industry experience, and a collaborative leadership style. Ideally, you will also come with;
- Tertiary qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Extensive hands-on experience in mine geotechnical engineering and/or rock mechanics, with exposure to both operational environments and study phases.
- Proficiency in areas such as hazard mapping, and use of using industry-standard software.
- A practical understanding of mine planning concepts and how they integrate with broader mining studies.
- Strong communication, leadership, and project management capabilities, enabling effective team coordination and delivery.
- Proven ability to lead consultancy teams with strong commercial acumen and strategic management insight is highly regarded
