About the Role:

WSP’s National Technical Contracting (Geotechnical Laboratories) business is seeking a dynamic leader to oversee our South Australian region, including two established NATA-accredited testing facilities. This is an exciting opportunity to lead a team of approximately 10 staff, drive technical excellence, and grow our laboratory services for both internal and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and promote Health and Safety across laboratory operations
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and support for staff development
  • Oversee laboratory testing and project delivery to prescribed technical standards (ASTM & Australian Standards)
  • Manage laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance
  • Ensure staff training in health, safety, and technical protocols
  • Interpret and analyse test data, ensuring compliance with NATA requirements
  • Prepare reports, proposals, and documentation as required
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, suppliers, and stakeholders
  • Conduct project site visits and participate in project-specific rosters
  • Approve timesheets and expenses, and produce quarterly status reports
  • Manage sample storage and disposal
  • Other duties as required

Key Attributes:

  • Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology, or similar relevant qualification
  • Minimum 3 years’ full-time experience in construction materials testing
  • Demonstrated commitment to Health and Safety
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Knowledge of NATA accreditation requirements and Australian test methods
  • Solid troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Project management experience (PM level 2 or above preferred)
  • Experience in consultancy or laboratory testing environments
  • Developed industry or internal network for business development
  • Willingness to undertake first aid training (supported by WSP)
  • Flexibility to meet role expectations
  • Full driving licence required
