The Opportunity

As part of our Earth & Environment group, our Ecology team plays a central role in delivering sustainable, evidence‑based outcomes on some of Australia’s most significant infrastructure, renewables, conservation, and land‑use projects.

We are seeking a visionary National Executive, Ecology to elevate our national capability, strengthen strategic direction, and champion a collaborative, high‑performance culture across our growing ecology practice.

This is a unique opportunity to influence national direction, guide technical excellence, and help shape the future of ecological services in Australia.

As the National Executive, you will support and guide WSP’s Ecology Business Unit across Australia. You’ll advance our ecological offering, strengthen strategic frameworks, and drive sustainable business performance including commercial outcomes, quality, safety, and risk management.

Working closely with the BU Director, State Leads, Technical Directors, and leaders across Mine Rehabilitation, Connectivity, Nature Markets, and the Renewables sector, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering our Ecology Strategy 2024–27.

You’ll also collaborate across the broader Earth & Environment group and participate in global Practice Area Networks (PANs), helping connect WSP’s local expertise with international innovation.

 

What You’ll Do

In this influential national role, you will:

Lead & Strategise

  • Advance the national strategic framework to grow market share and drive profitable, sustainable business performance
  • Lead national growth initiatives, especially within the Renewables sector
  • Ensure alignment with global priorities, digital innovation, and international PAN collaboration

Drive Business Excellence

  • Build a strong safety, quality, and risk‑aware culture across Ecology
  • Establish frameworks for budgeting, forecasting, and corporate reporting
  • Improve win rates by guiding client‑centric pursuit strategies and strengthening key client relationships
  • Provide Project Director oversight on major pursuits and projects

Collaborate & Influence

  • Foster a “one team” national culture with strong collaboration across states and disciplines
  • Develop internal and external networks that support growth, capability development, and market presence
  • Work closely with HR, Finance, Commercial, and leadership teams to support business performance

Develop People & Technical Capability

  • Lead high‑performing teams, including remote employees
  • Support Practice Area Networks to ensure technical excellence, innovation, and talent development
  • Promote ongoing professional development, mentoring, and Thrive conversations
  • Ensure technical capability aligns with client needs, future markets, and strategic priorities

 

About You

You are a natural leader - strategic, influential, and collaborative - with the ability to bring people together and inspire high performance.

You will bring:

  • Deep experience in ecology, environmental consulting, or related sectors
  • Proven leadership of multidisciplinary or distributed teams
  • Strong commercial awareness and understanding of business drivers
  • Demonstrated capability in developing strategy and driving business outcomes
  • Experience engaging senior stakeholders and building long‑term client relationships
  • A passion for developing people, fostering collaboration, and supporting innovation
