  • Partner across the business to shape practical cyber outcomes

About the team

Wesfarmers’ Technology team plays a key role in enabling secure, reliable and high-performing technology services across the Group. Through innovation, automation and data-led insights, we deliver solutions that support long-term business objectives and protect our digital assets.

Within Technology, the Cyber Security team focuses on strengthening the resilience of our digital environment. The team spans three core areas: Advisory and Engineering, Cyber Governance, Risk and Compliance, and Defensive Cyber Operations.

We foster a collaborative environment where team members can do meaningful work, build capability and contribute to outcomes that matter across the Group.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring genuine technical depth in cyber security engineering, spanning identity and access management, data protection, security automation, cloud and endpoint controls.

You will be a proactive, practical engineer who is equally comfortable providing advisory guidance and rolling up your sleeves to build. You communicate clearly and partner confidently with business, product and engineering stakeholders to balance security, compliance and user experience.

You will also bring an understanding of AI-related cyber risks and the use of AI in defensive security. Just as importantly, you will know how to strengthen security through people; championing best practice, mentoring peers, and fostering a culture of continuous security awareness and improvement.

What you’ll do

As a hands-on senior engineer, you’ll drive cyber security engineering across Wesfarmers Corporate Office spanning cloud and enterprise platforms, the Group's shared data asset, and OnePass - our customer retail subscription program.

You will help embed security into technology decisions, product roadmaps and operational processes, strengthening controls and advancing automation across cloud and enterprise environments. There is sound methodology in place, and a genuine opportunity ahead for you to deepen this in practice.

Reporting to our Cyber Security Engineering and Architecture Lead, you will take primary responsibility for the following deliverables:

  • Strengthen identity and access controls: design, improve and harden identity, access and privileged access controls across a complex enterprise environment
  • Protect data across the environment: build and improve data protection, classification and monitoring controls across enterprise platforms, endpoints and cloud services
  • Embed security into delivery: integrate security and privacy controls into cloud environments, CI/CD workflows and technology roadmaps
  • Shape secure architecture: partner with business, product and engineering teams to build cyber security into key decisions, designs and services
  • Uplift application security: guide secure coding, infrastructure-as-code and vulnerability remediation across the software development lifecycle
  • Address emerging AI cyber risk: support the management of AI-related and other emerging cyber risks, including through defensive security practices and investigation support
  • Collaborate across the Group: work alongside divisional cyber teams and Group Cyber Security to share expertise, tooling and lessons learned, lifting practices across the Group

What you’ll need

  • Tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Cyber Security or a related discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Relevant cyber security and/or cloud certifications such as CISSP, CISA, CISM, CREST, CEH, Azure or AWS
  • Strong experience designing and deploying cyber security solutions across cloud and enterprise environments
  • Technical depth across identity and access management, data protection, cloud security, application security and endpoint controls
  • Experience working in Microsoft-centric security environments and with enterprise security tooling
  • Working knowledge of recognised security frameworks, CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code and modern engineering practices
  • Understanding of emerging AI-related cyber risk and the use of modern tooling in defensive security
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical teams and mentor others to uplift cyber maturity
