Data Governance Lead

About the Role
The Data Governance Lead is responsible for the development and implementation of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks, ensuring that data is managed as a strategic asset.
This role will lead the design of governance models, data quality programs, metadata standards, and compliance practices to support the organisation’s data integrity, privacy, integration and business intelligence goals.
What You Will Do
1. Data Governance Framework Development
- Develop and implement a data governance framework that establishes clear roles, responsibilities, and processes across business units.
- Facilitate the creation of a RACI matrix to clarify accountabilities related to data ownership and stewardship.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to embed governance principles into business operations and systems.
2. Data Quality Management
- Define and enforce data quality standards and metrics across all data domains.
- Establish tools and processes for ongoing data quality monitoring, including scorecards and issue logs.
- Lead resolution and escalation processes for data quality issues.
3. Data Privacy and Compliance
- Ensure data handling practices align with applicable regulatory requirements including GDPR, and local privacy laws.
- Partner with legal and IT teams to safeguard sensitive information and manage data risk.
4. Metadata Management
- Implement a metadata management framework to enhance data discoverability, classification, and lineage in our centralised platforms.
- Maintain a centralised metadata repository to support analytics and reporting teams.
5. Master Data Management (MDM)
- Design and oversee processes to integrate, standardise, and maintain critical enterprise data entities (e.g., customer, product, supplier).
- Enable a “single source of truth” through data harmonisation across systems.
6. Delivery of Governance Artefacts
- Develop and maintain key documentation including:
- Business data standards and policies
- Data glossary, procedures, and processes
- Data quality scorecards and issue logs
- Data source inventory, catalogues, and dictionaries
What You Will Need
- Proven experience (5+ years) in data governance, master data management, or related roles.
- Strong understanding of data governance frameworks and best practices.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements (e.g. GDPR, CCPA).
- Proficiency in tools for metadata management, data quality, and MDM (e.g. Collibra, Informatica, Alation, CluedIn, Profisee, Reltio, Semarchy).
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex technical data issues into business-friendly language.
- Demonstrated experience in producing formal data governance documentation and artefacts.
