The Solution Architect / Principal Consultant – Digital Ticketing & Payments Platform will lead the end‑to‑end solution design and architecture for Kinetic’s multi‑channel ticketing and payments ecosystem, operating within a matrixed reporting structure with functional accountability to the Head of IT and day‑to‑day delivery alignment to an assigned Project Manager. This role encompasses customer experience across mobile apps, web, self‑service kiosks, and third‑party platforms, integrating with backend systems, payment gateways, and ensuring security, scalability, and operational excellence throughout the platform lifecycle.

This is an initial fixed term full-time contract for 12 months, however due to the scale of our transformation program this may extend.

Key accountabilities:

Solution Architecture & Design

  • Define the end-to-end architecture for a multi-channel ticketing and payments platform encompassing mobile, web, kiosk, and retail channels.
  • Design a unified customer journey that delivers consistency across all touchpoints while maintaining flexibility for channel-specific requirements.
  • Establish architectural principles for account-based ticketing (ABT) and/or open payments (EMV contactless) systems.
  • Ensure alignment between customer experience requirements, business rules, and backend system capabilities.
  • Create comprehensive solution architecture documentation including system context diagrams, component designs, and integration patterns.

Integration & Platforms

  • Design and document integrations between mobile/web frontends and ticketing back-end systems, fare management platforms, and CRM.
  • Architect payment gateway integrations and connections to financial institutions ensuring robust transaction processing.
  • Design integrations with customer identity platforms, analytics systems, and physical devices (validators, kiosks, point-of-sale terminals).
  • Define API standards, data flow patterns, error handling strategies, and integration governance frameworks.
  • Evaluate vendor platforms and third-party solutions, providing recommendations on fit-for-purpose technologies and build vs. buy decisions.

Payments & Security

  • Architect secure payment flows across multiple payment methods including card payments, mobile wallets, QR codes, and account-based payments.
  • Ensure comprehensive compliance with PCI-DSS standards, privacy regulations (including GDPR and Australian Privacy Principles), and industry security best practices.
  • Define fraud prevention mechanisms, payment reconciliation processes, and settlement considerations in collaboration with finance and security teams.
  • Design security architecture including authentication, authorization, encryption, and data protection measures across all channels.

Non-Functional Requirements

  • Design for high availability, scalability, and performance across peak and off-peak usage scenarios.
  • Address offline and degraded connectivity scenarios, particularly for kiosks, validators, and remote environments.
  • Define monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational support models to ensure platform reliability and rapid issue resolution.
  • Establish disaster recovery, business continuity, and failover strategies.

Stakeholder & Delivery Support

  • Translate complex business requirements into clear, actionable solution designs and technical specifications.
  • Produce comprehensive architecture documentation including diagrams, design documents, technical standards, and decision records.
  • Support vendor selection processes, RFPs, technical due diligence, and contract negotiations.
  • Provide ongoing architectural governance during delivery phases, ensuring adherence to design principles and quality standards.
  • Act as a technical authority and advisor to project teams, development partners, and business stakeholders.

What you will bring:

  • Strong background of experience as a Solution Architect, Technical Architect, Enterprise Architect, or Senior Technical Consultant.
  • Proven track record delivering large-scale digital platforms with multiple customer channels and complex integration requirements.
  • Strong understanding of ticketing systems, payment platforms, or high-volume transactional systems.
  • Demonstrated experience with mobile platforms (iOS/Android), web applications, and API-led integration architectures.
  • Deep knowledge of microservices architectures, event-driven systems, and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform).
  • Experience working across business, user experience, and technical teams to translate requirements into practical solutions.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related discipline (or equivalent professional experience).
