About the role 

This role plays a key part in ensuring the safety and quality of drinking water across the organisation. You will provide technical leadership in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Water Safety Plans, ensuring they are robust, accurate, and aligned with regulatory and corporate requirements. Acting as a subject matter expert, you will support the business with specialist advice on water quality issues, risk management, and operational challenges.

You will work closely with internal stakeholders across metro and regional teams to develop and maintain effective water safety processes, contributing to risk assessments and enhancing systems that support water quality management. The role also involves reviewing technical documentation, ensuring consistency in approach, and driving best practice across the organisation.

In addition, you will play an important role in building capability within the team by providing coaching, mentoring, and guidance to others. You will contribute to training materials, support continuous improvement initiatives, and help strengthen the organisation’s overall approach to drinking water quality and safety.

What the role will involve

  • Providing expert advice and leadership on water safety planning and quality processes
  • Developing, reviewing and maintaining Water Safety Plans and related documentation
  • Ensuring consistent application of water safety standards across the organisation
  • Supporting risk assessments and continuous improvement of water quality systems
  • Coaching and mentoring team members to build technical capability
  • Engaging with internal stakeholders to manage water quality risks and outcomes

About you

  • You hold a degree in engineering, science, or a related discipline
  • You have strong experience in water quality, treatment, or water safety planning
  • You bring sound knowledge of risk assessment processes and regulatory frameworks
  • You are analytical, detail‑oriented and able to solve complex problems
  • You communicate clearly and build strong relationships with stakeholders
  • You enjoy sharing knowledge and supporting the development of others and are committed to high safety standards
