About the role

We are seeking an experienced legal or commercial professional to join Water Corporation’s Operations Contracts team in a newly created Principal – Commercial & Contract Advisory role.

This is a senior specialist position supporting some of the State’s most complex and high-value contractual arrangements, including desalination alliances, joint ventures, and long-term infrastructure agreements.

In this role you will provide expert commercial and legal advisory capability across a diverse portfolio of complex contracts, helping shape decisions on risk, disputes, commercial strategy, and governance. You will also act as a trusted advisor to senior stakeholders and as a key escalation point for complex contractual and commercial issues.

What you can expect with this role

  • Provide high-level commercial and contractual advice on complex and high-risk matters
  • Lead and support the resolution of major disputes, claims, and negotiations
  • Advise on contract strategy, risk allocation, and commercial positioning
  • Work closely with senior stakeholders to influence decisions and outcomes
  • Provide independent assurance insight into contract performance and risks
  • Act as a subject matter expert across the contract portfolio
  • Mentor and support team members on complex commercial matters

 Your skills and experience

For this role, we are looking for great talent with:

  • A degree in Law or Contract Management
  • Extensive experience in commercial, legal, or contract advisory roles
  • Strong experience working in complex contract environments (e.g. alliances, joint ventures, PPPs, or infrastructure projects)
  • Demonstrated ability to advise on high-value, high-risk contractual matters
  • Proven experience influencing senior stakeholders and shaping decisions
  • Strong commercial judgement and ability to operate in complex and ambiguous environments
  • Current/Previous admission to legal practice with experience in either utilities or infrastructure will be highly regarded
