About the role

We are seeking a Senior Advisor - Land Use Planning for a 3 month fixed term role to provide strategic land use planning advice that enables growth while protecting Water Corporation’s assets, investment decisions and long‑term business interests.

In this role, you will influence statutory and non‑statutory land planning processes across Western Australia established under the Planning and Development Act 2005, ensuring integrated land‑use and water servicing outcomes. You will work closely with government agencies, local governments, developers and internal stakeholders to manage risk, support sustainable development, and ensure water and wastewater services are appropriately planned and delivered.

This position suits an experienced land use planning professional with strong stakeholder engagement skills, sound technical knowledge of water and wastewater planning, and the ability to influence complex planning outcomes at both strategic and operational levels.

What the role will involve

  • Provide strategic and technical advice on statutory and non‑statutory land use planning matters, including state, regional, district and local structure plans, to support integrated land‑use and water servicing outcomes.
  • Assess planning schemes and development proposals for impacts on existing and future water assets, investment decisions, odour buffers and water resource protection zones.
  • Influence land planning agencies, government bodies and industry stakeholders to protect Water Corporation’s business interests and manage land‑use related risks.
  • Interpret water and wastewater scheme plans and contribute to infrastructure staging, growth forecasting and strategic planning inputs.
  • Support the land development industry through feasibility advice and early engagement.
  • Contribute to system and process improvements, and ensure activities comply with legislative, regulatory and corporate requirements.

About you

  • Degree level qualification in planning, engineering or a related discipline with considerable experience assessing and processing land planning proposals, or substantial demonstrated experience in lieu of formal qualifications
  • Strong experience in statutory land use planning frameworks, including planning schemes, structure plans, rezoning and subdivision processes within Western Australia
  • Sound technical knowledge of water, wastewater and drainage planning and their interaction with land development.
  • Proven ability to influence and negotiate with government agencies, local governments, developers and industry stakeholders
  • Demonstrated knowledge of WA planning legislation, policies and practices relevant to the water industry.
  • Strong communication, negotiation and relationship‑building skills, with the ability to operate credibly in complex stakeholder environments
  • Demonstrates behaviours aligned with a constructive, ethical and high‑performance culture
