About the role
We’re seeking a highly experienced Cyber Security Architect – Principal to join our Cyber Security Advisory team. In this role you’ll provide strategic and technical leadership across a broad range of cyber security engagements, helping to shape how security is embedded into Water Corporation’s technology landscape. You’ll work closely with internal stakeholders, project teams, and external partners to ensure security is considered early, risks are effectively managed, and solutions are designed with resilience and compliance in mind.
This position plays a key role in maturing our advisory capabilities, contributing to the development of security strategy, architecture standards, assurance practices and safeguarding our organisation against evolving cyber threats while enabling business objectives. You’ll also help to drive continuous improvement, support risk-informed decision-making, and enable secure outcomes across both IT and OT environments.

What the role will involve
As a Principal Cyber Security Architect, you will:
- Shape Security Strategy: Develop and maintain security architecture processes, strategies, and roadmaps aligned with business priorities, technology drivers, and threat landscapes. Contribute to the uplift of Water Corporation’s cyber security posture by embedding secure-by-design principles and supporting the development of strategic risk management practices.
- Design and Governance: Create security architecture artifacts such as patterns, templates, and standards. Participate in architectural governance forums to guide decisions and ensure alignment with internal standards and support consistent implementation across IT and OT environments.
- Assurance and Risk Management: Validate solution designs, conduct threat modelling using frameworks such as STRIDE and MITRE ATT&CK and ensure robust security practices across applications, networks, and operational technologies. Support the development of reusable control libraries and contribute to continuous assurance activities.
- Vendor and Technology Assessment: Evaluate third-party providers and emerging technologies to ensure security requirements are met and risks are appropriately managed. Provide input into supply chain risk assessments and support vendor onboarding processes.
- Collaboration and Leadership: Work with internal teams, external partners and governance bodies to advocate for security without compromising business needs. Work closely with other cyber advisors and contribute to the development of team capability through peer review, knowledge sharing, and process improvement
- Continuous Improvement: Stay ahead of industry trends and threat developments to keep our security posture strong and resilient. Identify opportunities to automate and standardise advisory practices and contribute to the refinement of cyber advisory processes and engagement models.
- Strategic Contribution: Support the development of Water Corporation’s cyber strategy and contribute to the definition and execution of improvement roadmaps across the advisory function.
Key skills and experience
To be successful, you will bring:
- Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in ICT, Project Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience in IT or cyber security disciplines will be considered.
- Expertise: Substantial experience in cyber security architecture, risk assessment, and security frameworks (ISO 27001/27002, NIST CSF, COBIT, TOGAF).
- Experience with threat modelling frameworks (e.g., STRIDE, MITRE ATT&CK) and their integration into solution design.
- Technical Knowledge: Broad understanding of IT infrastructure, IAM, OS hardening, network segmentation, and secure coding practices.
- Soft Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills. Ability to influence and lead security initiatives across diverse teams.
- Attributes: Proactive, accountable, and results-driven with a forward-thinking approach.
