About the role

Our Development Services team have a fixed term opportunity until September 2026 for a Land Use Planning Senior Advisor. You’ll provide a strategic land use planning service that influences land use planning processes and protects the Water Corporation against risk and enhances its business interests. Based in our Leederville office this role will report to our Manager Land Use Planning.

What the role will involve

  • Provide advice on Region Structure Plans, District Structure Plans and Local Structure plans to ensure water services are available for rezoning through integrated land-use and water servicing decisions. 
  • Provide input into Town Planning Schemes, Region Schemes for impact on existing Water Corporation assets, future asset planning, and investment decisions. 
  • System development and process improvement activities for the Business Unit work support systems (ie DeveloperNet)
  • Assist internal and external stakeholders on land planning strategies, programmes and detailed action plans to ensure they meet relevant land use planning statutory and strategic requirements.
  • Provide input into odour buffers and water resources protections zones responses to ensure that the water infrastructure is not affected by encroachment of incompatible land uses.
  • Support the land development industry with feasibility enquires.
  • Guide land use planning agencies in their development forecasting activities (for example the WAPC’s Urban Development Program) through the provision of asset capacity information and strategic planning information.
  • Assist in the assessment of development programmes to ensure that the development of adequate land planning policies can be achieved.

Key skills and experience

Ideally you will be degree qualified in town planning and/or diploma qualified in engineering, plus demonstrated capability of investigating, assessing and processing land use planning proposals in accordance with corporate processes. You will have the capability to communicate at all levels and demonstrate a high standard of interpersonal, negotiation and analytical skills. You will have good knowledge of land use planning legislation, policies and practices in Western Australia and ideally in relation to the water industry.
