About the role

We have a 12-month fixed term opportunity for a Principal - Category Management to lead and develop strategic procurement initiatives, within our high-value, complex Operations and Maintenance Category. Based in Leederville and reporting to the Manager – Strategic Procurement, this role plays a key part in driving business savings, optimising spend and delivering commercial value across the organisation.

What you can expect with this role

This strategic role at Water Corporation focuses on applying category management principles to maximize commercial value, mitigate risk, and enhance safety in third-party contracting. You’ll lead supplier negotiations, develop sourcing strategies using market intelligence, and create detailed procurement plans that drive long-term cost efficiencies. Additionally, you’ll manage complex RFx processes and deliver strategic contracting projects, ensuring alignment with business goals and risk thresholds.

Your skills and experience

As an experienced procurement professional, you will be degree-qualified in a business-related discipline and bring substantial expertise in strategic sourcing and category management. You have a strong track record of leading complex procurement engagements, developing commercially sound sourcing strategies, and negotiating with major suppliers to deliver value.

Your ability to manage supplier performance and post-award contracts will be key in supporting large-scale, high-value arrangements. With experience in multi-disciplinary, geographically dispersed organisations, you’re confident working across diverse teams to deliver practical, impactful outcomes for our community.
