The world is changing and as we work towards a more sustainable future, our teams work to create innovative solutions and help our state succeed.
Build a brighter future for WA by creating a thriving team environment that inspires everyone to excel using their unique strengths and skills.
Are you a seasoned wastewater treatment professional ready to make a statewide impact?
We’re seeking a capable and proactive leader to head a small team of technical wastewater treatment process experts dedicated to supporting 98 regional wastewater treatment plants across Western Australia.
Your mission: Assist Operational and Maintenance workers to improve treatment performance, reduce energy usage, and optimise chemical processes across diverse plant environments.
This is a fixed term position from 18th August 2025 – 11th September 2026.
About the Role:
A key part of your team’s work will involve conducting on-site investigations to identify solutions and champion best practices across varied environments.
To stay connected with teams and operations on the ground, you’ll be travelling about 1–2 weeks each month, particularly through the Midwest and Goldfields regions.
Give or take, every two months, you will also fly down to Albany and make occasional road trips to Bunbury and the Southwest region for face-to-face catch ups with your staff.
It’s a role that blends leadership, technical expertise, and hands-on regional engagement, all with the goal of delivering better outcomes across our state’s wastewater treatment portfolio.
Why Join Us?
This role offers the rare opportunity to combine deep technical skill with the freedom to lead your work your way.
You’ll enjoy autonomy to set your own agenda. No micromanagement here, while still receiving strong support from your manager when you need it.
You will be joining a team of seasoned professionals, many with 20+ years of experience, who are ambitious and driven to share knowledge and collaborate to solve real-world challenges.
More than just a job, this is a chance to make a measurable difference, using your technical know-how to protect the environment and improve systems across WA.
You’ll work with like-minded Environmental Warriors who are fiercely committed to sustainability and leaving things better than they found them.
What You will Need to Succeed.
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring a strong technical foundation in wastewater treatment processes, ideally backed by operational experience at treatment plants.
You will be confident leading a small team, preferably with experience managing remote staff and know how to motivate and guide others toward shared goals.
You are someone who can dive deep into investigations independently, with the skills to review data, interpret reports, and craft clear, insightful findings of your own.
Proficiency with tools like Power BI, Word, and Excel is essential to effectively communicate results and track improvements.
Experience in managing a safe workplace for remote workers is desirable.
And perhaps most importantly, you're adaptable! This role operates in a rapidly changing space, and we need a team leader who doesn’t flinch at change but embraces it.
Finally, a Degree level qualification in a relevant Scientific or Engineering field!
Regional applicants encouraged!
The hiring manager welcomes applicants based in the regions and is open to flexible arrangements for strong candidates.
