About the role:

We are seeking an 18 month fixed term contract opportunity for an Operational Technology (OT) Maintenance Specialist to lead a focused alarm improvement programme across our operational assets. Our Integrated Operations team is currently experiencing high alarm loads, and this role will act as the technical lead and subject matter expert for alarm management, providing direction, oversight, and assurance for alarm improvement activities.

You will provide hands‑on expertise in SCADA and PLC alarm management, while also directing the work of two OT Engineers delivering day‑to‑day alarm improvements. Your leadership will ensure alarm management activities align with recognised standards and deliver measurable, sustainable outcomes. The position is based in the Perth metropolitan area, with occasional travel to regional Western Australia to support workshops, site engagement, and critical implementation activities.

What the role will involve

  • Act as the alarm management technical interface to operations
  • Lead the planning, prioritisation, and delivery of alarm management improvements
  • Provide technical direction and oversight to two OT Engineers undertaking alarm implementation activities
  • Prepare PLC and SCADA alarm configurations, limits, priorities, and rationalisation outcomes for approval
  • Lead and facilitate alarm management and alarm rationalisation workshops
  • Ensure alignment with recognised standards, including ISA‑18.2
  • Analyse alarm performance and drive measurable reductions in alarm loads
  • Work closely with Operations, Engineering, and Safety stakeholders to embed sustainable practices
  • Travel occasional to regional WA to support on‑site diagnostics, commissioning, and performance validation

Key skills and experience

Essential:

  • Experience leading alarm management programs in operational environments
  • Strong working knowledge of ISA‑18.2 alarm management practices
  • Proven experience providing technical leadership and direction to engineers or multidisciplinary teams
  • Strong background in Operational Technology, including SCADA and PLC systems
  • Experience across the OT lifecycle, including design, configuration, commissioning, and optimisation
  • Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, particularly with operations‑focused teams
  • Sound understanding of engineering documentation and management of change (MOC) processes
  • Willingness to travel occasional to regional Western Australia

Highly Regarded:

  • Experience with major OT platforms, particularly Schneider Electric and Siemens S7 / TIA Portal
  • Experience within water and wastewater treatment or similar critical infrastructure sectors
  • Strong understanding of industrial communications, including:
  • DNP3
  • Modbus (Serial / TCP)
  • RS‑485 / Profibus
  • Profinet / TCP/IP networks
