About the role

We have an exciting permanent opportunity for a Specialist Environment Advisor - Operational Approvals to join our Environmental team based in Leederville. We are have two positions joining our Approvals , Regulation and Performance Section to enable the long-term delivery of Operational, Maintenance and Capital programs. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with Operations, deliver real on-ground outcomes and travel the State from Kununurra all the way to Esperance.

Leaning on your extensive experience in Part IV,Part V and EPBC Act Environmental Approvals and delivery of on-ground outcomes, you will be essential to the long-term delivery, works packages, upgrade, replacement and management of Water Corporation’s extensive water services network and assets.

You’ll provide specialist advice and leadership across environmental approvals, compliance, operational support, revegetation and environmental management systems. You will contribute to the successful delivery of new major infrastructure and operational programs.This role provides the opportunity to influence strategic environmental outcomes, work with key regulators and stakeholders, and drive continuous improvement across environmental processes, systems and operational practices.

What the role will involve

• Provide expert advice, delivery, guidance and support on environmental approvals and compliance requirements under State and Commonwealth legislation.
• Provide specialist environmental advice to support operational and project decision-making.
• Interpret environmental legislation, licences, approvals and site data to ensure compliance obligations are met.
• Identify environmental risks and opportunities and develop practical solutions that support business objectives while protecting environmental values.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with regulators, government agencies, industry bodies, advocacy groups and other key stakeholders.
• Represent Water Corporation in discussions with agencies including DCCEEW, DWER/EPA Services, DBCA and other regulatory authorities.

About you

• Significant experience in environmental approvals, environmental impact assessment, environmental compliance and environmental management
• Strong understanding of State and Commonwealth environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks
• Demonstrated experience securing environmental approvals and managing regulatory stakeholder relationships
• Experience with Operations and on-ground delivery
• Excellent technical writing, analytical and communication skills
• Experience managing consultants and multidisciplinary stakeholders
• A degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Natural Resource Management or a related discipline
