Following this period, you may request for working from home to be considered for up to two days per week for full-time staff with the remaining days being worked in the office. This hybrid model allows us to stay collaborative and connected while also supporting our team to enjoy the benefits of flexibility and work–life balance.

About the role
The Executive Manager, Healthy Communities plays a key role in the Population Health Unit at VACCHO. Leading a team of six, your strategic vision and creative thinking along with your ability to share your Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge, will help you and your team to deliver VACCHO’s statewide program of initiatives. These programs raise awareness of healthy lifestyles across the various life stages and supports Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to provide this information into Community.
Our programs are varied and include establishing a Community of Practice for ACCO’s involved in kitchen gardens, cooking lessons and supporting Food Sovereignty, managing the development of a statewide Advanced Care Plan embedding culture, and increasing awareness and choices around Journey to the Dreaming and provision of culturally safe palliative care. This role enables you to contribute to making a real difference within, and for, Community.
Essential skills/experiences
To be successful in this role, you will:
- Identity as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander as your cultural and lived experiences are central to the work we do.
- Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal peoples, Communities, and organisations, in a culturally safe, and appropriate, manner.
- Have good verbal and written communication skills with the ability to confidently share your cultural knowledge in the development of messages and resources.
- Have a background in health, preferably Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander health.
- Be a strategic and creative thinker, who can drive innovative programs to completion with your project management skills.
- Have solid people management experience, that enables you to lead and inspire your team to succeed.
- Have a flexible approach, with strong organisational and planning skills, including the ability to effectively manage time and workload, prioritise tasks, and meet changing circumstances, competing demands, interruptions, and deadlines.
