The Role

As our Commercial Facilities Officer, you’ll be the go-to person for the smooth operation of student accommodation and other commercial facilities across our precinct. From coordinating student move-ins and move-outs to managing contractors, resolving issues on the spot, and ensuring our spaces are safe, functional, and welcoming — no two days will be the same.

You’ll liaise with stakeholders across the University, oversee maintenance activities, and develop practical, creative solutions to challenges as they arise. You’ll also play a key role in planning and preparing facilities for peak occupancy periods and delivering an outstanding experience for everyone who uses our spaces.

What you’ll do:

  • Coordinate the day-to-day operation of student accommodation and commercial facilities.
  • Manage contractor works and ensure maintenance requests are actioned promptly via Maximo.
  • Conduct regular inspections, identify issues, and implement improvements.
  • Plan and oversee move-in/move-out processes and cyclical facility activities.
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders, keeping them informed about works or disruptions.
  • Monitor compliance with health, safety, and risk management standards.

This full-time ongoing position is at a HEW 6 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.

A degree in a facilities management, property, engineering, building and construction or other relevant area with subsequent relevant experience; or extensive experience and specialist expertise or broad knowledge in technical or administrative fields; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education in an areas such as facilities maintenance.
  2. Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills including the capacity to build relationships and an inter-disciplinary way of working.
  3. Demonstrated knowledge and experience in supervising facilities operations within a large facility with multiple buildings.
  4. Demonstrated high level of computer literacy with ability and willingness to embrace new technologies, develop and use reporting capabilities, identify opportunities for systems-based process improvements
  5. Extensive relevant experience and expertise in the provision of customer-focused infrastructure services, with a demonstrated dedication to delivering excellent customer service. 
  6. Demonstrated experience working both independently and in a team environment, with the ability to build relationships and engage in effective teamwork.
  7. High level organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and manage several tasks simultaneously to meet competing deadlines, operating effectively under pressure.
  8. Knowledge of, and experience in adhering to workplace policies and procedures in the areas of work health safety, equity, diversity and promoting a respectful workplace culture.
