Join the University of Newcastle’s Security Team and play a hands-on role in creating a safe, welcoming environment for our students, staff and visitors. This is a customer-focused position with plenty of variety – from auditing contracts and responding to incidents, to engaging with students in our student living precincts and building strong stakeholder relationships.
What you’ll do:
- Deliver proactive security services across all campuses
- Support emergency and critical incident responses
- Follow up and provide support to victims of incidents
- Lead safety and engagement initiatives in Student Living precincts
- Assess risks and contribute to preventative security strategies
- Travel between campuses to provide consistent support
What we’re looking for:
- Customer-centric with excellent stakeholder engagement skills.
- Confident in assessing security risks and contributing to crime prevention strategies.
- Skilled at working with diverse groups and large crowds, with a calm and forward-thinking approach.
- A natural communicator who can balance operational duties with building strong community relationships.
- A 2A security licence or willingness to obtain
This full-time position is a continuing role at a HEW 6 Higher Education Level located at Callaghan Campus.

- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or substantial experience in relevant areas (such as security, crime prevention, law enforcement, and related environments) and hold or a willingness to obtain a NSW 2A Security License issued under the provisions of the Security Industry Act as well as a current NSW Class C Driver’s Licence.
- Capacity to provide excellent client relationship management and communicate with internal and external stakeholders across all levels of the organisation, ensuring professional, sustainable and effective working relationships are built.
- Demonstrated experience relevant to crime prevention, risk management, security and related areas developed in a high-pressured public environment.
- Highly developed analytical skills with attention to detail with a proven ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- Demonstrated experience in the comprehensive analysis of safety, security and related issues, providing detailed and relevant reports and recommendations affecting changes in policy and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience in addressing emergencies and critical incidents within a complex multi-campus university environment or similar.
- Highly organised and methodical in approach with an excellent approach to detail as well a high level of initiative.
- Demonstrated ability to strengthen and integrate Equity and Diversity, Health and Safety, WHS principles and the capacity to implement relevant plans and policies.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA • Previous experience working with a large Security team within a complex, multi- campus university environment
** The successful candidate must be willing to complete a Working with Children Check and a National Police Check.
